With the freshest turkey and trimmings perfectly prepared, skip the holiday hassle and let Miles Farmers Market create a homegrown holiday feast for your gathering
By Laura Briedis
Over the past half-century, Miles Farmers Market has been helping families celebrate holidays—and this year is no different. Even with inflation, Miles is honoring the same price per pound of turkey as it has the last couple of years.
“We are thankful for the community that has supported us all these years, and we enjoy helping make their holidays special,” says store manager Justin Golobek.
“All of our turkeys are fresh—never frozen—and are free-range and antibiotic-free,” he says. “We personally try turkeys from different farms and select the best that get our Miles Very Own stamp of approval.”
The market has fresh turkeys available in sizes ranging from 10 pounds up to 30 pounds. And no need to call the turkey hotline (yes, there really is a toll-free turkey talk line to answer your cooking questions), as Miles butchers can answer any questions and provide printed cooking instructions with every turkey.
If you don’t want to cook your own turkey dinner, the market has pre-cooked turkeys and complete ready-made dinners. If turkey is not your favorite, try one of the alternative entrees, such as glazed ham, roasted Angus beef round in gravy, or Faroe Island salmon.
You also will find a plethora of side dishes, including mashed potatoes, turkey gravy, cranberry sauce, candied yams, green beans, Brussels sprouts and roasted vegetable medley, as well as stuffing.
“Our famous sausage stuffing is from our owner’s family recipe collection,” Justin says. “We make the sausage in our own meat department, and we use the bread from our bakery for the ultimate homemade stuffing.”
The bakery also will be making thousands of rolls and biscuits. More than just your regular dinner rolls, you will find an assortment of freshly baked, butter-flake biscuits, egg and butter rolls, mini cornbread muffins, and brioche and pumpernickel dinner rolls.
Though Miles Farmers Market is busy preparing for the Thanksgiving rush, it is already looking ahead and creating gift baskets. “We will start displaying our custom-made gift baskets the first week of December,” Justin notes. “But if you want a basket now, we can make you one with 24-hour notice so you can pick up a hostess gift filled with items such as chocolates, wine and other gourmet items.”

Pies Galore
Who doesn’t love a slice of pie? At Miles Farmers Market, pies take center stage during the holidays. Freshly baked every day—just like grandma’s—the pies are made with the same quality ingredients that are sold in the market.
“We have 20-plus varieties of pies,” says Justin. “It’s hard to pick a favorite but there are some with seasonal appeal.”
Thanksgiving favorites: Pumpkin, Sweet Potato, Pecan and Apple
All are synonymous with Thanksgiving, so it’s hard to choose—especially with the wide-ranging assortment.
“Our bakery department received 4,000 pie orders in October and is taking many more this month leading up to Thanksgiving,” Justin notes. “Our staff will work 36 hours straight through the night baking pies so you can pick up your pie Wednesday before Thanksgiving. We don’t bake them in advance because we want them as fresh as possible.”
The day before Thanksgiving, the store will set up all the pies for pickup in the hallway before you enter the store. And if you order on its website and pay ahead, you can just grab and go.
Christmas favorites: French Silk, Apple Caramel Walnut, Coconut Cream
It’s not too early to start planning your menu for the holidays. All pies make a festive holiday dessert, so it really comes down to personal preference if you want a fruit pie or to indulge in a cream pie.
In addition to pies, Miles Farmers Market also has cookie and brownie platters, with an assortment of gourmet cookies. “Our bakery display is overflowing in December with so many sweet treats,” Justin says.
