With MaxStrength’s proven formula for helping people get into the best shape of their lives, getting older doesn’t have to set you back
By Patricia Nugent
Thanks to advancements in medicine, people can expect to live longer, but will they live better?
Locally owned MaxStrength Fitness studios were founded by Jeff Tomaszewski with a research-based strength training protocol aimed at increasing and preserving muscle mass, as well as bone density, flexibility, balance and nutrition.
“Studies show that age-related muscle loss, or sarcopenia, begins after age 30, with people losing 3-5 percent of their muscle mass with each decade,” explains Jeff. “People with sarcopenia have twice the risk for a bone fracture from a fall. But we do have the power to reverse loss with progressive resistance training.”
He created a unique concept of two intense, trainer-led, 20-minute sessions on specialized resistance equipment as the most effective means to fatigue the muscles so they can rebuild between sessions.
“Our clients understand that paying us now will pay off later with them avoiding doctors, medications and joint replacements,” he says. “We pave the way for people to age gracefully, functionally and actively.”
Meet Lynn McIntosh
As a pharmacist at the VA Hospital, Lynn McIntosh has a crazy busy schedule. But being in health care, the 40-something also appreciates the importance of making time to stay fit and its impact on her longevity.
For someone who has always been an athlete and passionate about fitness, Lynn had been doing her best to squeeze running and yoga into her life. Though she was seeing a private personal trainer back in 2019, when he moved away, she was left looking for a way to fill her strength-training void.
After reading a story about MaxStrength in Mimi magazine, she thought she’d give it a try.
Lynn ticks off many reasons why she loves the experience here: flexibility to fit in her schedule, only two 20-minute workouts per week, and the fact that it works. But her favorite thing about the workouts is they are sweat-free, since the studio is kept at chilly temps.
“Being able to squeeze in a workout after work, and then head right to a social function, is a game-changer for me,” she says. “Even though I don’t get hot or sweaty, every muscle is worked to exhaustion.”
She also appreciates how the trainers customized her plan to accommodate a bad back.
“Strengthening my core to support my back is a goal,” she says. “Now I’m no longer in pain.”
Nothing Succeeds Like Success
This springtime, Jeff and his hardworking team are on a roll. The Willoughby studio celebrates six years in business, the Westlake studio 16 years, and they are preparing to open a new location on Pearl Road in Strongsville this summer.
“The new studio will be a bit more modern than our first two,” says Jeff. “It’s a plus to be able to take a space down to the studs and build it back up with a futuristic feel. We did a lot of research before putting a pin in Strongsville and it feels like a wonderful fit for us.”
This locally owned studio has also made commitments to add franchising partnerships on a national level later this year.
