Now is the time when most employees select their medical insurance plans for the coming year. This year, instead of signing up for the same dental insurance, you may want to check out a novel membership plan offered by a local dentist.

When you look at the numbers, you will see that you may actually save money—and at the same time get the most advanced dental treatments. This is welcome news to many who have dental insurance payments deducted from every paycheck, only to find out when they need something such as an implant it is not covered by insurance, or a crown is only covered at 50 percent.

“I want to make dentistry accessible to all,” says Dr. John Heffernan, owner of Advanced Dentistry. “I don’t want people to shy away from seeking routine dental care as it is important to good, overall oral health.”

Now is the time when most employees select their medical insurance plans for the coming year. This year, instead of signing up for the same dental insurance, you may want to check out a novel membership plan offered by Advanced Dentistry.

In addition to accepting most major dental insurance plans, Advanced Dentistry has created its own membership plans for those without insurance. The Advanced Complete costs $19 a month and includes two professional cleanings, two advanced exams, X-rays and one emergency exam per year. Ideal for those with periodontal disease, the Advanced Extended offers three maintenance cleanings, two advanced exams, specialty films and one emergency exam for $29 a month.

“For patients who only need cleanings and X-rays every year, and on occasion a cavity filled, this plan would be very cost-effective,” says Dr. Heffernan.

If you do need other services, membership plan participants get a 10 to 20 percent discount on everything from fillings to crowns to root canals. Plus, they get discounts on cosmetic dentistry, including veneers and tooth whitening, which is not covered by insurance.

The biggest advantage? With this plan there are no deductibles, annual maximums or denials of claims.

“Being in network with multiple insurance carriers while also having our own membership plan allows us to provide greater value to more patients while maintaining a high level of care with advanced technology and excellent customer service,” says Dr. Heffernan.

Located next to Brunswick KiDDS, Advanced Dentistry has formed a multi-specialty group offering a continuum of care from pediatric dentistry to family dentistry.

Dr. John Heffernan and the team at Advanced Dentistry offer a prevention-first approach with an emphasis on preventive care, including everything from cleanings to sealants, wisdom teeth extraction, TMJ treatment and sleep apnea treatment. They also specialize in cosmetic dentistry. (Pictured from left to right: Miranda, Diane, Christine, Dr. John Heffernan, Kristie and Stefanie.)

When you walk into the new offices of Advanced Dentistry, you don’t feel like you are in a dental practice. A coffee bar with a large-screen TV above it streaming cooking shows makes you feel at home. Even when you go back into one of the four treatment rooms, which are decorated in calming blues and grays, the comfy amenities are juxtaposed with high-tech equipment.

And when you meet Dr. Heffernan, you realize at once how his personality mirrors the surroundings as his friendly, approachable demeanor puts his patients at ease.

With specialized training in laser dentistry as well as orthodontics, he has all the latest dental technology, including wireless intraoral scanners that take scans to make clear aligners for orthodontics and are used to take impressions for crowns and veneers, eliminating the need for impressions with that dreaded, gooey material.

“I am invested in our patients and want to make the latest technology accessible to all,” says Dr. Heffernan. “I love dentistry because I love people, and I’ve seen the power that a smile can hold.”
