Transitioning from winter’s snow-covered landscape to spring’s colorful flowers popping up through a green backdrop, March is a perfect reminder of how beautiful change is. And it’s also the signal to get back outdoors.

Leading the charge is Impact Landscape & Home Remodeling, a family-owned business known for building stunning outdoor gathering spaces for homeowners.

“We are designing new landscape projects, including patios, pavilions and pools, right now and in just a couple of weeks we will be digging already,” says Joe Chiera, who along with his wife Kristen, owns Impact Landscape & Home Remodeling.

Both a landscape company and a home remodeler, the company has a unique perspective when designing inside and outside spaces. From designing backyard kitchens that look like they belong indoors to remodeling home interiors, this locally owned company is seamlessly blending indoor-outdoor living spaces.

“We are creating grand spaces in backyards that are similar to an indoor open-concept family room and kitchen,” says Joe. “These outdoor spaces are an extension of your home and provide extra square footage of living space.”

Oftentimes, this means building a pavilion with a fireplace, a pergola framing an outdoor kitchen, or a porch with retractable screens to better define outdoor gathering spaces.

Patios, Pavilions, Pergolas
To anchor outdoor gathering spaces, Impact has been building a variety of spaces, from home additions with retractable screens leading to an outdoor patio to a pavilion set back in the yard with a meandering walkway leading to a tranquil sitting area.

For one Sharon Township homeowner, the company built an expansive pavilion that is more like an indoor family room, complete with a fireplace, mounted TV, granite countertops and comfy, padded counter stools and swivel chairs. Another homeowner in Fairlawn opted for a pergola with four brick columns for an airier space above, situated next to a built-in grill. And for a Bath Township homeowner with a big family, the pavilion, which was built with black-painted cedar wood and topped with a black standing-seam metal roof, was designed to be able to seat everyone around one table for family meals and entertaining friends.

“We design our hardscapes around each family’s needs, taking into consideration how they use their backyards,” notes Joe.

Always with a nod to nature, the company designs one-of-a-kind hardscapes that provide comfortable seating amid beautiful, landscaped yards, around firepits or next to a pool or other water feature.

Impact incorporates a mix of water and fire features, as well as lots of natural elements, in its landscape designs with the same goal: to provide an outdoor space that is relaxing.

“Growing up as a kid, I was always playing in the woods and creeks, so I really enjoy bringing that sense of adventure to backyard landscapes,” comments Joe. “There are a lot of different focal points we can add to your landscape design.”

Fiberglass Pools
One of the biggest focal points you can add to your backyard is a swimming pool.

Impact installs fiberglass pools designed with upscale features such as tanning ledges and beach entry slopes. They come in all shapes and sizes, as well as colors ranging from Caribbean Sparkle for a bright blue to Graphite Gray that reflects a steel-blue water color.

“Fiberglass pools are very low maintenance,” says Joe, noting there is no liner, they don’t need re-plastering and you won’t snag swimwear.

“Our current lead time to order pool shells is four month, so there is still time to schedule a new pool for this summer,” adds Joe.

With each landscape project, the company creates a detailed plan, which is meticulously hand-drawn by Russ Luyster, the landscape designer. A seasoned horticulturist, he doesn’t rely on computer templates but rather designs by hand a custom plan for each home, which can include trees, shrubs, flowering perennials, boulders, lighting, pools, patios and other hardscapes.
