Two races remain in the City of Green’s Great 8 Race Series—Hallowin Race and Green Professionals Association Turkey Trot

Rayl Hallowin Race October2021

By Mimi Vanderhaven

Only two races remain in the City of Green’s 2023 Green Great Eight Race Series, so if you’ve already run or walked in at least three, you still have a chance to participate in five of them to earn your commemorative hoodie, in addition to awards and swag provided by each race. Last year the series raised more than $150,000 for nonprofits and involved 3,500 runners and walkers.

Here are details about the remaining two races:

HalloWin Race

The Rayl Charitable Organization’s HalloWin Race on October 21 includes a 5K race and 1-mile fun run. This event features up to $2,000 in prizes, fun costumes, decorations, and a whole lot of candy. Costumes are encouraged. Net proceeds benefit The Debbie Rayl Kindness for Kids Program which reimburses Local School Teachers (Green, Manchester, and Barberton Intermediate) for out-of-pocket expenses for disadvantaged students.

The 5K begins at 8 a.m. and the 1-mile fun run starts at 9:30 a.m. Participants receive a long-sleeved shirt and a finisher medal. The races will have four candy stops and strollers are welcomed.

Turkey Trot

The 11th annual Green Professionals Association Turkey Trot features a 5K run/walk and a 1-mile fun run. The event takes place on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23, and raises money for college scholarships for Green High School seniors. To date, GPA has donated $35,000 in college scholarships to Green High School seniors.

The event starts and finishes at Green Memorial Stadium, 1737 Steese Road. The 1-mile fun run begins at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K starts at 8 a.m.

All pre-registered participants will receive a free long-sleeved performance shirt. Shirts are not guaranteed for race day registrations.
