Treat your guests to one of the tastiest turkeys in town, available now at Miles Farmers Market
By Laura Briedis
Though the media has been reporting that consumers should expect to pay much more for their Thanksgiving turkey this year, Miles Farmers Market has chosen to honor the same price per pound of turkey as last year.
“We source our turkeys from the same farm every year, and we placed our order in April, so we are not as affected by what is happening nationally,” says store manager Justin Golobek. “And though our costs have increased, we are absorbing the increase and not passing that along to our customers.”
“All of our turkeys are fresh—never frozen—and are free-range and antibiotic-free,” adds Justin. “We are known for the freshest and tastiest turkeys.”
Miles Farmers Market has fresh turkeys available in sizes ranging from 12 pounds up to 28 pounds. Miles butchers are available to answer any questions and provide printed cooking instructions with every bird.
If you don’t want to cook your own turkey dinner, the market has pre-cooked turkeys and ready-made dinners in its hot food case. “We prepare single-serve meals you can bring home and heat up yourself, if you are just planning on a small gathering, or we can cater any size dinner,” says Justin. “We will have a refrigerated truck set up outside to make it convenient to pick up catering orders.”
Sharing center stage with the turkey are Miles homemade side dishes. You will find everything you need to trim a turkey, including Yukon Gold mashed potatoes, turkey gravy, cranberry sauce, candied yams, green beans and Brussels sprouts, as well as sausage stuffing.
“Our famous stuffing is from our owner’s family recipe collection,” says Justin. “We make the sausage in our own meat department, and we use the bread from our bakery for the ultimate homemade stuffing.”
Though Miles Farmers Market is busy preparing for the Thanksgiving rush, it is already looking ahead and preparing gift baskets. “Coming next month, we will start displaying our custom-made gift baskets,” notes Justin. “But if you want a basket now, we can make you one with a 48-hour notice so you can pick up a hostess gift or start holiday shopping early.”
Pumpkin, Pecan or Apple Pie?
All are synonymous with Thanksgiving, so it’s hard to choose—especially with the wide-ranging assortment at Miles Farmers Market.
“We have 20-plus varieties of pies,” says Justin, noting that the bakery department received 4,000 pie orders in October and is taking many more this month leading up to Thanksgiving week. “Our bakery staff will work 36 hours straight through the night baking pies so you can pick up your pie Wednesday before Thanksgiving. We don’t bake them in advance because we want them served as fresh as can be.”
In addition to the traditional holiday pies, Miles also features cream pies, including French silk and banana cream, both perennial favorites. For that something different, try the sweet potato pie with tender potatoes and hints of cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger; or the Fruits of the Forest pie, which is packed with lots of fruits, including strawberries, apples, raspberries, rhubarb and blackberries.
No matter which pie is your favorite, no Thanksgiving dinner is complete without a piece of sweet goodness.
“Since we sell thousands of pies, we make pick-up easy by setting up the pies the day before Thanksgiving in the hallway before you enter the store,” notes Justin. “And if you order on our website and pay ahead, you can just grab and go.”
