This is not your typical doctor visit

In the traditional medical model, physicians spend the day going from exam room to exam room dedicating just a few minutes to each patient. That may work when you have an infection and need an antibiotic, but managing chronic pain requires a deeper relationship. By comparison, my office visits are pretty lengthy, with the first two consult visits totaling up to three hours. This time is important because I need to understand the patient’s goal in seeing me—that is, your goal, not mine.

After the first telehealth visit, I’ll send you a summary of our discussion that we will review together at the in-office consult to ensure we are on the same page before proceeding with developing a treatment plan.

Even before the initial office visit, our staff connects with new patients and gathers previous medical information so I can review all of your records before I see you.

Anxiety and stress are contributors to chronic pain, so we insist on a non-traditional medical office designed to be calming. We’re located inside a century home where the walls are soothing colors, not white. During your visit, you’ll enjoy calming music. During any treatment visits, you’ll enjoy aromatherapy and music of your choice.. This Google review explains it better than I can:

“I am a private person and I very much appreciate the fact that Dr. Delzell understands this. She made the room calming with aromatherapy and music that calmed me. She let me know what to expect throughout treatment.”

I am also more directly involved in the patient experience compared to a traditional practice. For example, if lab work is required, I’ll call you personally with the results. To the delight of many of my patients, I often answer the phone at the office.

We go to these lengths not only to reduce anxiety, but also because I want to model an atmosphere that people should expect and enjoy in their everyday experiences. Chronic pain is often accompanied by chronic anxiety, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
