The Wooden Nickel Bar & Grill features a different Smash Burger every month

Known for its flavorsome smash burgers and decadent desserts, The Wooden Nickel Bar & Grill is more than just a place to dine for lunch and dinner.

Located in a century-old barn in Valley City, it exudes a warm and cozy ambiance—with lots of fun. The restaurant hosts trivia night every Tuesday and “Survey Says,” a game based on the popular Family Feud TV show, every Wednesday.

“We suggest reservations for trivia nights as we usually have a full house,” says Taylor Davis, a bartender who helps manage the business. “Our new game on Wednesday is just as fun.”

In addition to weekly events, the restaurant also organizes special events throughout the year. Next on the calendar is the First Annual Pig Roast, on Saturday, June 1.

“We have so many regulars that we are having an event that brings everyone together this summer,” Taylor says.

The menu is as big a draw as the events. “Every month we feature a different smash burger,” she says. “For May, it’s the French Onion Smash Burger and in June The Big Nick, served with our homemade potato chips and dip.”

Partnering with local bakeries to support other small businesses, this month the restaurant is serving Messy Aprons sweets.

“Many of our diners come in every week just for dessert, or to try our specialty cocktails,” Taylor says. “In May, we are featuring mojitos, a cannoli martini and springtini.”
