Are you an empty nester looking for a new home that fits your current lifestyle? How does an upscale, low-maintenance, ranch community sound? Simply lock and go as you travel the world or stay right here with plenty of space and amenities to entertain friends and family. The Villas at Canterwood Farms in Concord Township, an Epcon Community by 20th Century Construction, offers all of that and so much more.

Allison Riebe Moore, vice president of sales and marketing for 20th Century Construction, a family-owned-and-operated company since 1981, can help guide you in your search.

“We hear from past clients who no longer need large homes or want the maintenance that comes with them,” says Allison. “They are looking for high quality, functional, one-level living options to customize their home to fit their needs. Canterwood Farms checks all those boxes.”

Canterwood Farms residents Betty and Gary Matteo

If all this sounds familiar, Canterwood Farms residents Gary and Betty Matteo were just like you. We reached out and asked them about their decision to move here, and their answers might help with your search and get you excited for the next step.

Q: Why did you choose to move from your current home?

A: We had a large family home, which had served us well before our children all became adults and started their own lives. Now that we are empty nesters, we felt it was time to right-size.

Q: What attracted you to the Canterwood Farms community?

A: First and foremost, the idea of low maintenance living was appealing since our last home and property required a great deal of maintenance and upkeep inside and out. Secondly, there was a comfort level knowing that 20th Century is very reputable and builds quality homes.

Q: What features in the homes most appealed to you?

A: Single floor living with well-thought-out floor plans.

Q: What features/amenities of the community appealed to you?

A: Primarily the low maintenance but also having a clubhouse, swimming pool and exercise facility was very appealing.

Q: Did close proximity to restaurants, shopping and highways play a part in deciding where to move?

A: Location was important. We definitely wanted to stay in the area and are very comfortable here since our previous home was less than 2 miles away.

Q: What are you most looking forward to when the club house is complete?

A: We’re looking forward to using the clubhouse as a gathering area and of course the swimming pool without the responsibility of daily maintenance. Would like to see yoga classes and maybe occasional cooking classes or demonstrations.

Q: Because maintenance is included, how are you planning to use your extra time?

A: More golf is definitely on the agenda. Pickleball is a new hobby, and we are most looking forward to daily walks through the neighborhood.

Allison says to plan on a six-to-eight month build time, which buyers often find helpful as it allows the time to time to prepare for the move. If you need something sooner, one Mimi reader could be in luck.

“There is one spec house for sale now for a summer move-in,” says Allison. “The Palazzo is a three-bedroom, three-bathroom, 2,300-square-foot home with a sitting room in the owners’ bedroom, a bonus suite, and a four-season room model. Call Lisa at 440-639-4663 for a tour.”
