I sat down with local real estate expert Denise Zervos, who, along with her husband, Mark, owns The Neighborhood Experts at Platinum Real Estate, for a year-end peek at what’s happening here in Lake County. She gave me her own spin with The 12 Reasons to Sell Your Home During the Holidays.
“It’s a misconception of buying triggers when people tell me they don’t want their home on the market over the holidays,” she says. “I understand now is a time to spend with family, but knowing what an emotional connection buyers will have to your home when they walk through it lovingly decorated for the season could change your mind. That welcoming and warmth has real cachet. They will be imagining their own family in it on future holidays. It’s really the best your home looks all year. Why not show it at its best?”

- Buyers who are out there looking right now are serious and motivated. They are trudging around in the snow and cold when they wish they were home relaxing by the fire.
- The supply of homes is traditionally the lowest it will be all year, meaning you’ll have the least competition and can attract the best offers. As soon as January and February come around, buyers will have more homes to choose from and you’ll no longer be in the driver’s seat like you are now.
- Around the holidays and into January is a time when companies often relocate people. So, they will be travelling here while they are off work over the holiday to shop for a house.
“Positioning yourself to get top dollar and being able to move when you choose with a delayed close or delayed possession are things anyone would hope to see under the tree,” she adds.
