The Hair Specialists includes experts in the field of thinning hair to help prevent and disguise hair loss and regrow hair

It’s only fitting that The Hair Specialists moved to a new location in a renovated, lovingly restored, 1950s home. Radiating welcoming warmth, the salon is cozy, comfy and chic.
The original salon, which opened in Hudson in 2010, attracted people from across the country, as clients came from Texas, Florida, Colorado and all over Ohio for its specialized niche—helping clients prevent and disguise hair loss and regrow hair.
With an ever-growing clientele, the salon needed more space and moved 7 miles down the street in Stow, doubling its space. Salon owner Kelly Nemitz’s vision was to create a place where clients feel comfortable and relaxed. With light streaming in through 33 windows and reflected off dozens of large mirrors leaning against the walls, it is bright and airy.
Even though the salon specializes in hair replacement solutions, it doesn’t have a medical feel but rather a shabby chic vibe. That’s evident as soon as you drive up to the nautical gray-colored house with a whitewashed brick chimney and walk through the door flanked by planters overflowing with fragrant lavender. Inside, eight styling stations are centered around a hair extension and wig display on what was once a 1920s coat rack in Higbee’s department store.
Tucked back in the house are four private rooms, each with its own shampoo bowl and styling station. These rooms are named after men who have influenced Kelly’s career: Fred’s room is a nod to a barber who was one of her early mentors; Jim’s room gives thanks to the general contractor who stepped in to help build the new salon; and Bill’s room is named for her father, whose entrepreneurial spirit she shares.
Kelly is passionate about making clients who have hair loss feel happy and confident. It is personal for her as she has struggled with hair loss since birth.
“I was born with no hair, and it only started to grow in as peach fuzz,” she says. “During my teenage years, my hair was so thin I weaved in hair extensions and it made me feel gorgeous. From that moment, I knew I wanted to share that feeling with everyone who struggles with hair loss and embarked on a career in cosmetology.”
“Everyone has their own hair story, so we provide individualized hair solutions,” says Kelly. “We work with women and men at every stage of hair loss. It all starts with a consultation so we can determine the best solution for each client.”
There are many in-salon treatments that can strengthen, grow and camouflage your hair.
The salon has one of the biggest selections of hair extensions and clip-on toppers that add fullness to your hair, and the stylists can also make custom-molded wigs or camouflage hair loss with powders and sprays.
“Everything we do results in very natural-looking hair,” says Kelly, who is a certified accredited master of the American Hair Loss Council. “Our hair extensions are made from 100 percent human hair and they come in a multitude of colors and textures to match your hair. We mimic exactly what you have but give you more.”
The non-surgical hair replacement salon also offers laser therapy, as well as supplements and serums that help grow hair back naturally.
The salon, which has an appreciable male clientele, also is well versed in haircutting and hair coloring techniques.
“For some clients, we can just cut and color their hair so it appears more voluminous, while others may opt for hair extensions or wigs,” Kelly says. “Losing your hair can be incredibly difficult, so we are here to restore your appearance and confidence.”
