The newest server at Shinto Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar stands just shy of four feet tall, weighs 121 pounds and is known for her playful and sarcastic personality. She’s also made of aluminum alloy and has an LED screen for a face.

Meet Bella.

This interactive, fully dimensional food delivery robot is just another example of how Shinto likes to stay way ahead of the innovation curve when it comes to providing a world-class restaurant experience.

“During the start of Covid, our management team brainstormed ways to provide safe, friendly and efficient service in light of the labor crunch,” says General Manager Brittany Swan. “I had read about the idea of a robot server in Restaurant News magazine, and our founder, Sheng Long Yu, researched and found a company that made them. We decided to make the investment. Bella has been a huge hit with our diners, who enjoy her cat-like features and quirky, interactive sense of humor.”

Bella is fully programmed to deliver food and drinks to any table in the restaurant. A few other fun things she likes to do:

  • Sing the Happy Birthday or Happy Anniversary song while going to a table that’s celebrating.
  • If there are people in her path, she’ll say something like, “Excuse me please, you don’t want me to get fired!”
  • If someone is “stranded” in a bathroom stall, she can deliver toilet paper.
  • She especially likes it when people scratch behind her ears.
  • Take dirty dishes back to the kitchen.

What’s the only thing cooler than a robot server in your favorite restaurant? How about two robot servers? Brittany reports that “Stevie” has just arrived at the super popular Asian-fusion eatery and is currently being programmed to join Bella on the floor soon.

“We’re thankful to our faithful clientele for making us so successful. We’ve already far exceeded our expectations for the year,” she adds.
