With the upcoming move into a new 15,000 square-foot practice in Macedonia, Shelley Plescia NP-C looks forward to offering her clients an expanded menu of cosmetic services and best-in-class treatments in a modern, state-of-the-art facility.

Meet Nurse Practitioner Shelley Plescia
Shelley Plescia, NP-C is a medical aesthetics expert with over 18 years of experience. She is highly trained and specialized in cosmetic treatments and has been providing her expertise to clients in the Cleveland area since 2017.

Shelley’s journey to a career in medical aesthetics began with her personal skin issues. Her experience with her own cystic acne in her late-teens and early-20s eventually turned into a career path.

“I was put on Accutane and started getting acne facials and microdermabrasion to deal with my troubled skin, which was constantly broken out,” she says. “The more I researched skin health, the deeper I went into the field and found out I loved it. That made me feel like we have the power to change the skin we are in. I wanted to help others, so I became an esthetician 17 years ago, then took it to the next level and went to nursing school to earn a master’s degree and become a nurse practitioner so I could offer medical aesthetic treatments.”

A first step toward turning back the hands of time at Optima Dermatology is a VISIA skincare analysis, which measures eight areas of skin health.

The Latest Minimally Invasive Procedures
Shelley sees each patient as an individual and values building long-term relationships with them and having a positive impact on their lives. She creates custom treatment plans and often recommends more than one treatment to achieve their goals.

“I work with patients of all ages and stages of life,” she says. “Over the years the types of minimally invasive treatments we are able to offer have vastly improved and evolved. The earlier we can start working with someone, the better the results in the long-term. Smoothing wrinkles before they worsen with age is really a preventive measure.”

Some of her specialties include Botox and Dysport to treat fine lines and wrinkles; dermal fillers to address volume loss and contour the face; and microneedling to improve texture, minimize scarring and stimulate collagen production;

“I also do lots of lip fills and lip flips, where I inject to relax the muscle of the upper lift to slightly flip it upward,” she says.

Although the majority of her clients are women, Shelley says she’s seeing more and more men come in for anti-aging services.

“Thankfully, the social stigma of ‘having a little work done’ isn’t as negative as it used to be,” she says. “People are more aware of the treatments available and are comfortable asking for them. Doesn’t everyone want to look refreshed and rejuvenated? ”

In addition to medical aesthetic services, the new 15,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Optima Dermatology facility planned to open in early 2023 will include a Mohs Surgery Center and Optima Research, to provide clinical trials and clinical studies for groundbreaking research in dermatology.

We’re in Laser Season
With the upcoming move into the new state-of-the-art facility, Shelley will also be offering new modalities of lasers and photofacials—the HALO Hybrid Fractional Laser, a first-of-its-kind laser for overall skin rejuvenation, and Forever Young BBL (Broadband Light), the most effective photofacial available. Shelley has extensive experience and training with lasers and light treatments, and looks forward to being able to offer these devices to address a range of skin concerns and deliver the best possible results for her clients.

“I think of fall and winter as ‘laser season,’” she says. “This is a time when your skin is its palest of the year and all those little spots and areas of discoloration are more apparent. With a series of laser treatments, I can often take women to the point where they don’t even feel like they need to wear makeup anymore, which is nice.”
