On January 25, new mayor Rocco Yeargin will give the City of Green’s annual State of the City Address

The City of Green’s annual State of the City Address is being held on Thursday, January 25, at the Green High School auditorium, 1474 Boettler Road. The public is invited.
This year’s address will be delivered by new mayor Rocco Yeargin, who took office on January 1, 2024, after winning election in November. He has replaced Gerard Neugebauer, who served as mayor for eight years. Neugebauer was unable to run for reelection due to the city’s two-term limit.
The annual State of the City address, mandated by the city’s charter, includes a financial report to city council and the public. Mayor Yeargin’s address will also feature a review of 2023. And as his first State of the City address, it represents an opportunity for the public to hear his vision for the future of the City of Green.
“In addition to giving a snapshot of progress in the city, the address provides an opportunity to reflect on who we are as a community and what we strive to become,” he says. “It illustrates your local government in action. I encourage all residents to attend.”
“Continuing to host the event in the high school auditorium means more residents are able to attend,” says the city’s Communications Manager Valerie Wolford, who adds the address is more than a charter requirement; it is a community event.
“The doors open at 6 p.m. and the address begins at 7 p.m.,” she says. “Residents are invited to come early to mingle and network. Green High School student musicians will be performing prior to the address.”
The event is free and open to the public. Advance registration is not required, but it is encouraged so organizers can gauge the amount of refreshments to order. Make your reservation by calling the mayor’s office at 330-896-6602.
City Council meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. For January, however, the State of the City address will take the place of the second council meeting. The public is invited to attend all council meetings.
