Miles Farmers Market hosts a fish fry every day of the year
By Laura Briedis
Whether you celebrate Easter, Passover or Ramadan this spring, Miles Farmers Market has all those seasonal specialties you need for holiday meals. From hot cross buns and paska in the bakery, to free-range eggs from local farmers in the dairy cases, to spiral-cut ham and beef brisket at the meat counter, the store is brimming with all your family favorites.
“Our hams are top quality and are always fresh,” says Justin Golobek, store manager. “Our Miles traditional spiral-cut ham comes with a glaze packet if you want to add a bit of sweetness. We also have a fire-glazed ham, in which the brown sugar and honey glaze is torched onto the ham so it is crispy and crunchy.”
Though ham is a traditional Easter meal, Miles Farmers Market also sells a lot of beef and lamb, as well as its homemade sausages and kielbasa.
Plus, the store has added new pierogies, which are always a favorite meal for many families during Lent.
“We are now selling pierogies made locally by The Pierogi Lady, which we will have in rotating flavors, ranging from potato and cheese to smoked gouda mac and cheese to wild mushroom,” says Justin. “This is just one of the dozens of local businesses we feature in our store.”
“Soon we will be getting local mushrooms from our foragers and the first crops of locally grown vegetables from our farmers,” notes Justin.
Sweet Treats
As your one-stop shopping market, Miles Farmers Market also makes its own hand-dipped milk chocolate. On display by the checkout lanes, you’ll be tempted by varieties including chocolate-covered pretzels, s’mores bars and the best-selling chocolate turtles.
In addition to Miles’ own sweets, you will find other boutique brands of chocolates scattered throughout the store.
Back in the bakery, there always are fresh-out-of-the oven pies, cookies and spring-decorated cupcakes. For a limited time during the holiday, the bakers also are making hot cross buns and paska.
Spring Florals
Miles also has an appreciable selection of fresh flowers. This month on display are fragrant lilies, tulips and daffodils, which make the perfect table centerpiece for your home or a hostess gift to give to others.
The market boasts a 10-foot fresh-cut flower case with assorted bouquets year-round. And just around the corner, the patio will open soon with an abundance of hanging baskets, annuals, perennials and assorted vegetable plants.
With all of the floral arrangements and Easter and Passover meals at Miles Farmers Market, you can definitely say that spring is in the air.
Fish Fry!
It seems like every year during Lent, there is a fish fry happening somewhere, from churches to neighborhood pubs—and even your local grocery store.
At Miles Farmers Market, its fish fry rivals the best in Northeast Ohio. And the good news is, it isn’t just limited to Fridays during Lent. You can enjoy a fish fry any day of the year.
“Our fish fry on our Bistro menu is available every day and is served with fries, coleslaw and our homemade tartar sauce,” says Justin Golobek, store manager. “But during Lent we add more specials, such as a fried shrimp dinner and our new fish hoagie topped with coleslaw, cheese and tartar sauce.
“In our fish fry station set up in our Bistro, we make our hand-cut and hand-battered cod fresh to order.”
The store also has fresh seafood aplenty, including the best-selling Faroe Island salmon, as well as meatless options perfect for the Lenten season in its heat-and-eat food cases.
