“Every decision we make has to pass the test of our core values,” insists Scott Powers, sales manager at MDG Flooring America, in Medina. “For example, when we’re deciding about a product to bring into the showroom, do we want to buy cheap products to sell cheap? Would that meet our core values? How would that impact our core value of ‘next-level service?’ Would it give us the integrity of having a product that we know is not going to fail? If the answer is no, we don’t make that choice. Everything we do has to pass that test. That’s why I have our Values Statement and Core Values posted right next to my desk.”

According to MDG’s Values Statement:

“MDG Flooring America provides superior quality home improvement products and services to our valued customers. We are leaders in the flooring industry. We build strong, positive relationships with our customers to support their needs. We desire to grow and improve each day. We have a strong, knowledgeable team that treats others the way we want to be treated and are active in supporting the communities in which we operate.”

Being a locally owned independent store, MDG makes it easy to answer questions and solve any problems that might arise.

MDG’s Core Values are:

Family – We care for our team members and treat them like family.
Legacy – We give back and make a difference in the communities in which we operate. We continue to build upon our strong quality, brand and reputation.
Operational excellence – We make daily continuous improvements, hold each other accountable and are results oriented.
Open communication – We communicate openly and actively listen to one another.
Resourceful – We provide proactive solutions to problems and empower our team to make decisions.
Integrity – We are honest and trustworthy people.
Next level service – We provide excellent customer service to our customers and team and lead by example in all we do.
Growth – We have a positive mindset, work hard and are focused on growth.

That, Scott says, pretty much spells it out.

“Operational excellence and open communication may be the two most important values on the list,” Scott says. “I think they set us apart from a lot of our friends in the business. A big part of operational excellence is our highly skilled installation crews. Anybody can buy a piece of carpet and tack it down. But proper installation matters in terms of appearance, safety and extending the life of the product.”

A recent installation, Scott says, illustrates another of MDG’s core values: resourcefulness.

“We recently put in new carpeting at a fitness center,” he says. “The owner told us that we were the only company that offered to level the floor. Everybody else was just going to carpet right over a floor that wasn’t in the best shape. We put down furring strips, brought in a concrete leveler and did the job right so that his exercise machines weren’t going to be flopping around.”

Open communication, Scott adds, is another important part of a customer’s experience.

Every product MDG Flooring America brings into its store must pass a stringent test. If it doesn’t align with the company’s core values, it doesn’t make its way onto the sales floor.

“Most customers understand that things happen and there are sometimes delays, especially these days when everybody is experiencing supply chain problems,” he says. “But customers don’t want to be kept in the dark. That’s why we’re sticklers about keeping people in the loop.”

Being a locally owned independent store, MDG makes it easy to answer questions and solve any problems that might arise.

“The buck stops here,” Scott promises. “Whether your question is about a product, installation, our lifetime warranty or anything else, we have one number to call—not a bunch of call centers—and we take care of you.”

MDG’s current showroom expansion is an example of the company’s commitment to growth, Scott says. Along with the addition of a new Kiba kitchen and bath studio, Scott says he is continuously adding new flooring products to keep up with the latest trends.

“We’re always updating,” he says. “I am a huge advocate for keeping things fresh and new. We just got a bunch of new carpeting and a supplier was just here this morning delivering some new tile products.”

One new item that will arrive soon is the new Audacity line of luxury vinyl tile (LVT) plank, made by Armstrong.

The new Audacity line of luxury vinyl tile (LVT) plank, made by Armstrong, is slated to make its debut at MDG Flooring America.

“LVT continues to dominate the flooring market,” Scott reveals. “People are buying it for everything from starter homes to investment properties to high-end luxury homes. That’s because it’s waterproof, easy to install, easy to maintain, and it comes in all kinds of gorgeous patterns that mimic wood, ceramic tile and other flooring materials.”

Currently, he says, hardwood patterns are drawing the most attention from homeowners.

“There are more LVT options than ever before,” Scott assures.
