Lighting can set the mood

Without a doubt the most dramatic innovation in the history of lighting, the introduction of light-emitting diode or LED lighting has opened up a world of endless possibilities when it comes to enhancing your décor and your lifestyle.

You can set the color and brightness of any fixture via a switch. Maybe you want a softer, bluish white, or you might like yellow light for a more retro feeling. There are bulbs with thicker visible filament that also create a vintage feeling, and materials we’re seeing a lot of include aged brass, patina bronze and matte black.

Adding lighting to your living spaces can up your upscale game, too. We’ve been installing under-cabinet lights in the kitchen, to sconces in a family room and decorative rope lighting in a child’s bedroom to set the mood.

Many of these new fixtures can be operated from your smartphone, which is pretty amazing. You can be out to dinner and turn your porch light on so it’s bright and safe when you arrive back, or you can set dimmers to lower the overall lighting at a certain time in the evening.

From a practical standpoint, you’ve got to love the fact that LED lighting is about seven times more efficient than the old incandescent bulbs, requiring 80% less energy and lasting 25 times longer.
