The two main pain points of kitchen renovation are cost and inconvenience. Anyone living in a “before” look, but dreaming of an “after” one, should think about giving their cabinets a fresh face by repainting them instead of redoing the whole kitchen.

“The days are pretty dark and dingy right now in Northeast Ohio, so it’s not a surprise that homeowners are looking to brighten their interior environment,” says Andrew Smola, who owns Curb Appeal Painting. “Cabinet painting has turned into our number one most requested service for our interior painting division for a reason. It costs a fraction of replacement, and we can be in and out within three or four days, as opposed to the several months a total renovation can take.”

BEFORE
DURING
AFTER

Rob Drago of Curb Appeal not only oversees the jobs, he was recently his own customer, having just refinished the dark cabinets in his 2011 home with a cheery shade of cream.

“The cabinets were in excellent shape, so we thought, why throw the baby out with the bathwater,” he says. “Going with a light color still works with our lighter countertops. It makes the room seem much larger. And adding more modern hardware pulls the look together for a night-and-day difference.”

Taking Steps for a Meticulous Finish
Kitchen cabinets take a lot more wear and tear than other areas of the home. That’s why these painters take extra steps for an ultra-durable effect.

Every job begins with the setup, creating a “dust wall” to make sure no dust or spray travels into the home. Then they disassemble doors, drawers and hardware.

“We clean all wood cabinets before applying the primer or sealer coat, then paint,” says Andrew. “We sand them thoroughly then dust them off and vacuum with a HEPA machine. Then we apply several finish coats, sanding between each one for the best effect.”

Meet Tom and Dianne
Last November, Tom and Dianne of South Euclid pulled the trigger on painting their dark brown kitchen cabinets a fresh, bright white. They had priced out the difference of painting versus replacing and it was about a quarter of the cost.

“Since our cabinets were solid wood, we didn’t want to lose them,” says Tom. “Going with Curb Appeal was a great experience. The crew was great. We couldn’t have asked for any better guys to come in here. The finish now with white makes you really want to stay in the kitchen. It’s just a pleasant, easy place to be.”

Love Your Home Again
“Our clients have one thing in common—they want to maximize their enjoyment of every square inch of their living space,” says Rob. “And that’s one of our favorite parts of the job.”

In addition to cabinet painting and interior paint jobs, Andrew reports they are already booking jobs for exterior work.

“There are many beautiful older homes on the East Side,” he says. “We love restoring them to their original grandeur and have no problem working on things like cathedral front doors.”

Headquartered in Richmond Heights, Curb Appeal Painting beautifies homes all over Northeast Ohio. The company has earned multiple local and industry awards, including Best of Houzz for service, and Super Service Award on Angie, to name a few.
