Locally, the number of homes on the market is slowly rising, and so are interest rates and inflation. According to local real estate experts, what that means to buyers is they can find their dream home more easily heading into fall and winter.

What that means to those on the fence about selling their home is that the seller’s market won’t be as frenzied as it has been the last few years, and they may want to think about selling over the next six months to get top dollar.

I recently sat down with Denise Zervos, who, along with her husband, Mark, owns The Neighborhood Experts at Platinum Real Estate, for some advice.

“With an uncertain market, it’s always a good idea to be prepared for what may come your way,” she says. “With these last few weeks of nicer weather, we recommend anyone thinking about selling their home take the steps to tidy it up in case they decide to sell. On the exterior, curb appeal means the world to buyers. It lends that first impression to what lies beyond the front door.”

Now’s the time to get your home power washed, windows cleaned and landscaping done. She says you should take a hard look at every inch of the exterior through the eyes of a potential buyer. Does anything need to be fixed or replaced?

“Before the cold sets in, think about putting a fresh coat of paint on your front door and buying some mums or fall flowers to put on the front porch,” she adds. “Everything needs to look new, and well cared for. If a homeowner has a hectic schedule or doesn’t know how to manage these things, there’s no need to feel overwhelmed. We have a wonderful network of professionals to do everything.”
