How to improve bone density
By Kyle Hotz, ACE Owner, Founder; Higher Heights Fitness
Osteoporosis is a condition that occurs when the creation of new bone tissue does not keep up with the loss of old bone tissue. It can be a frightening diagnosis for anyone, as it often comes with fractures, back pain and loss of height.
There’s a common misconception that someone with brittle bones shouldn’t engage in physical activity or weight-bearing exercise. But that’s actually what doctors recommend. The more resistance training you do, the stronger your muscles become, which protects your bones. Studies have also shown that resistance training can help slow the progression of bone loss.
We have many clients at Higher Heights who are dealing with osteoporosis—and we’ve seen positive outcomes. With our InBody 270 analyzer, we can measure and track skeletal muscle mass. We’ve seen that shoot up for most of our clients after training here.
As professionals, customizing the best plan to deal with these kinds of conditions is where our training comes in. We work with not only the safest and most effective movements (lots of resistance bands and weight training), but we also counsel clients about their diet, getting enough calcium, vitamin D and protein to build lean muscle.
We’re here to help you reach your goals and live your healthiest life through functional training. A diagnosis of osteoporosis shouldn’t stop you in your tracks.
