Here's how to save 10% on your next MDG Flooring America purchase
By Ken McEntee
Many people tend to organize the year by its four seasons. MDG Flooring America tracks time by its calendar of charitable collections. Presently, the family-operated home improvement retailer is offering a 10% discount to customers who bring in coats to help people stay warm through the cold winter.
The coat drive started just after the conclusion of MDG’s annual Toys for Tots holiday collection.
“It’s our way of giving back to the community that continues to support us,” explains Steve Walbolt, president of MDG Flooring America and Kiba Studios. “It’s our identity as a company. We value the fact that we are a small, local business and that the money our customers spend with us stays in our community.”
Throughout the year, MDG sponsors youth sports and other activities along with its ongoing “give back and save” sales—like the coat drive.
“We give the coats we collect to a lot of the different schools throughout our county,” Steve says. “We like to spread it around to where it’s needed the most.”
For the past two years, MDG was a collection center for the donation of pet supplies to benefit the Medina County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
“At one point we looked like a pet store,” Steve recalls. “It was pretty darn cool to see all the stuff that was donated. Often SPCA doesn’t get enough stuff they badly need.”
Back-to-school time is always the season for MDG to collect school supplies for kids who need them.
“We take everything from backpacks to the basics that typically are on the school supply lists,” he says. “After the school supply collection, we like to get an early start on our annual holiday food drive so that we can collect as much food as possible for the local food pantries. Then come Christmas time we focus on collecting toys for kids in our county who might not have the best holiday. We can at least provide them with presents to open on Christmas morning.”
You needn’t buy a houseful of carpeting to make a donation, Steve emphasizes.
“Our showroom is a drop-off location for all of these collections and people are always welcome to stop in and make donations,” he says. “Just before Christmas, for example, a lady came in and dropped off four bicycles. She wasn’t a customer. She just dropped off the bikes and left. But if you happen to be in the market for flooring materials or are planning a kitchen or bath renovation, we’re delighted to reward your generosity by offering a 10% discount on the materials you purchase. Bring in a bag of canned goods and you save 10%—it’s that simple. That’s because it’s important to us as a company to partner with, and give back to, the community that’s given us so much.”
Partnering with local charities and serving with civic organizations are other ways MDG gives back to the Medina County community, says Steve, who is on the board of the Northern Medina County Chamber Alliance.
“We’re also very involved with the H2O Foundation and the Synergy Networking Group,” he specifies.
H2O is a non-profit foundation that began in 2016 by adopting one local family for which to provide gifts and groceries for Christmas. From that single family, the organization grew to provide meals and gifts for more than 250 families.
“We were able to serve 69 families during the last Christmas season alone,” Steve says.
The coat drive will continue until the end of February. The pet supply drive for the Medina SPCA will run from Wednesday, March 1, to Sunday, April 30.
Meanwhile, Steve notes that your home is an ideal investment. That’s why MDG is now holding a double tax refund sale (13.5% discount), which offers 60-month, interest-free financing.
“It’s an opportunity to put your tax refund to work to increase the value of your home,” Steve suggests. “MDG features the latest trends in carpeting, hardwood, vinyl and other flooring products. Browns and neutral colors are hot this year and people seem to be trending toward simplicity—neutral, warm and natural shades that are associated with peace of mind, calmness and confidence.”
“When you upgrade your floors, you’re investing wisely while giving yourself the benefit of beautifying your living space,” says Scott Powers, vice president of sales.
Scott says luxury vinyl tile (LVT) continues to be the hottest flooring product on the market for homes of all price levels.
