Here’s how to beautify your roof and add 5 to 10 years to its life, saving you thousands of dollars
By Mimi Vanderhaven
Although Pristine Clean is widely known for cleaning grime, mold, moss and mildew from roofs, siding and driveways, the company now offers a roof restoration service dubbed the Pristine Roof Renew, and it has become one of the fastest growing parts of the company.
“Once you see the results, you can’t help but love it,” says company founder Ken Wilson. “It’s like getting a new roof for pennies on the dollar. We did a roof last week and about 15 neighbors came out to watch. It turned into a kind of party. Everyone was amazed.”
How Roof Renew Works
After safely washing your roof with their leading-edge soft-wash system, the technicians apply a soy-based, eco-friendly treatment that restores lost oils to the shingles, increasing their flexibility, durability and slowing down the loss of grit.
“You can look in your gutters or at the base of your downspouts and see the granules that are coming off your shingles,” Ken says. “This is due largely to brittleness caused by the loss of oils which are depleted by UV rays. Last year when I was hanging Christmas lights, I could see the grit I was knocking off when I walked on the roof. After applying Roof Renew to my own home, my shingles are more flexible and I don’t see the grit coming off. We use a special soybean oil treated with an emulsifier that helps the shingles absorb it. That’s what softens them. This also further waterproofs the surface and reduces the effects of oxidation and bacteria growth.”
What Are Those Black Streaks?
And speaking of bacteria, those black streaks on your roof are not simply dirt; they are the pervasive and prevalent algae known as gloecapsa magma, which requires a moisture-rich environment often in the shade. “It usually starts on the north-facing side of the roof and in areas with heavy tree coverage,” Ken says. “Algae travel through the air, so if one neighbor receives a few spores, the whole neighborhood can soon be infected with black streaks. The algae feed on calcium carbonate found in most asphalt shingles.”
Siding and Driveways, Too
Pristine Clean’s soft-wash services also include cleaning grime from your home. While you don’t have to paint vinyl siding, you should clean it to prevent dirt, algae and bacteria from breaking down its UV protective coating.
Pristine also cleans and seals driveways and other concrete surfaces to protect them from cracking due to Northeast Ohio’s harsh winters.
High-Tech Equipment and Training
The company recently invested in additional leading-edge trucks, equipment and highly trained staff.
“All of our trucks are now outfitted with modern machines that get the job done safely and effectively,” Ken says. “You get a beautiful, clean home without damage to your property. We’ve also added technicians who go through a strict hands-on apprenticeship program to make sure they conform to our standards regarding safety, quality and efficiency.”
Pristine also employs a six-step process that includes an understanding of the job to be performed, an up-front, honest price and reminders of your upcoming service. “The process doesn’t until end the homeowner is completely satisfied,” Ken says. “We have a customer care team dedicated to making sure that happens.”
Pristine also offers financing through the Pristine Payment Plan. “We know times are tough, so we make it easy to wash and protect your investment,” Ken says.
