Here’s how Kaye Construction transformed one Strongsville homeowner’s kitchen into a modern masterpiece
By Laura Briedis
Over the past decades, Kaye Construction has built lasting relationships with its customers. What usually starts as remodeling one room, turns into more future projects. And one happy client turns into many more.
After reading about another home remodeling job in Mimi magazine earlier this year, one Strongsville homeowner turned to Kaye Construction to update their kitchen, flooring and staircase.
“We take a modern approach to each renovation but are careful to keep the character of the home so it all ties together,” says Josh Kaye, who, along with his brother Joe and father Ron, owns Kaye Construction.
Custom Staircase Treads
“We updated this homeowner’s staircase by installing white oak wood contrasted by black metal balusters and then painted the risers white and installed carpet panels,” he says. “It provides a wow factor when you first walk through the doors and sets the tone for the rest of the home.”
The contractors made custom carpet treads by cutting a runner into pieces and used carpet binding to stitch and staple a section of carpet on each step. You can still see as much wood as possible but it’s less slippery for added safety. They also changed the railing in between the kitchen and step-down living room to match the foyer staircase for one cohesive look.
Maritime Blue Cabinets
While Josh says white cabinets will always be timeless, more and more homeowners lately are looking for a pop of color when renovating their kitchens.
In the kitchen featured here, Kaye Construction used Maritime Blue cabinets for the island mixed with Simply White upper cabinets from Crystal Cabinet Works, a Minnesota manufacturer of affordable, custom-made cabinets known for its expert workmanship.
“We installed a blue subway tile backsplash and granite countertop with hues of blues and white to tie everything together,” Josh says. “Even though we did not add more space or change the footprint of this kitchen, it was a dramatic transformation. The flat cabinet doors give the room a very modern look.”
As with every job, Kaye Construction maximized the lighting in the room. For this specific kitchen, a mix of recessed lighting in the ceiling and under-cabinet lighting and swirled metal pendants hanging over the island and dining table all work together to be both functional and provide a design element.
“We also installed new luxury vinyl plank flooring throughout the entire first floor,” Josh says. “The flooring gives the entire home a fresh look, though we only renovated two rooms—the foyer and kitchen.”
The homeowner has plans for more renovations and concrete work in the future, as many of Kaye Construction’s clients do renovations in phases.
“Our goal is to have forever customers, as once we remodel a home we consider the homeowners as part of our family,” he says.
