When it comes to healthcare insurance options, Ginny Calvey, of Healthcare Help, is on a mission to help people get the maximum benefits for the lowest cost.

“You don’t know to ask about what you don’t know,” says Ginny, who has been in the business since the 1990s. “My job is to research each client’s position and craft the best strategy, educating them along the way.”

Whether You’re Over or Under 65
Health insurance has changed dramatically over the past few years, with repercussions for everyone no matter their age.

For instance, Ginny brings up the No Surprises Act, which took effect this year. It is designed to protect people against surprises, such as inadvertently being billed for receiving care from out-of-network medical providers. According to Forbes, it has already prevented two million dollars in the first quarter of this year.

“Something I explain to people is following the legislation taking effect, the medical providers came up with their own waiver that effectively nullifies the No Surprises Act,” she says. “I advise people to recognize what it is and not to sign it. Another common misperception is the difference between a wellness visit and a physical. It has to do with the lab work. Under many plans, you have to pay for the lab work incurred from a wellness visit. You need to know what the language means and how it applies to you.”

About three years ago, mammograms and more recently colonoscopies were split into two codes, one preventive and the other diagnostic.

“If people don’t know the codes of procedures, they cannot appeal any charges they feel they shouldn’t pay,” she says. “I can advise them on when to appeal and how to file a grievance.”

Avoiding Misinformation Pitfalls
For seniors, especially right now, there’s a boatload of misinformation and scams out there.

“People should be wary of things they receive in the mail or phone numbers like 1-800-MEDICARE, which is actually a call center,” she explains.

Ginny says oftentimes people come to her after they may have done things on their own and made costly mistakes, filing for Medicare too early or too late, incurring penalties and not getting the biggest bang for their healthcare dollar. Her goal is to prevent that.

“While there’s no one perfect plan out there, if you know the intricacies of the system you can cater the coverage to fit someone’s needs,” she says.

As an independent licensed certified broker, of all the national carriers, she’s not beholden to only sell people a certain brand.
