Dever Design & Build transformed this home for sale and it left the market in just one day
By Patricia Nugent
Jack Dever, of Dever Design & Build, has never been one to shy away from a challenge.
To transform the exterior of this Pepper Pike home—a $125,000 design and build job—he had to tap into his 30 years of design and construction experience.
Jack is an excellent fit for high-end remodeling jobs that require extra attention for ultra-discriminating clients who need an elite, concierge-level of care. Unlike the average remodeler, Jack comes to the job site every day, making sure the operations run smoothly.
He only takes on a handful of jobs each year so he can devote all of his attention to them. He anticipates clients’ needs before they realize they have them.
“Although I usually don’t do much exterior work, this job appealed to me in its all-encompassing scope,” he says. “We had to tear down the existing deck, which was dilapidated and unsafe, put on new siding and a roof, then rebuild a bigger, covered deck and remove and rebuild the existing cement patio and retaining wall.”
Glen G., who owned the 1959 home, said he was looking to sell it and retire.
“I had a strong opinion of how I wanted to expand the deck and cover it,” he says. “I knew I wanted something a little more modern to appeal to young home buyers.”
Jack says they opted for natural cedar planks, mixed with a composite material on the floor for increased durability and longevity. The use of railing cable, brushed nickel and industrial steel blends nicely with the wood elements.
“From planning to installation, I found Jack to be tremendously thorough,” says Glen. “He’s a detail-oriented person and stayed on top of the job’s progress remarkably well.”
The result proved to have an irresistible effect. When Glen put his home on the market last spring, it sold for full price in one day.
