Some may opine that the ideal thing to pair with a mug of one of Blue Heron Brewery’s award-winning beers may be a delicious appetizer, burger or entrée from the popular brewpub’s eclectic menu. Others may argue that an evening of uproarious laughter with a group of friends is the perfect complement to a couple cold ones.

You can enjoy all the above at Blue Heron’s comedy night on Friday, April 12, featuring headliner Jeremiah Watkins, as seen on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kill Tony and more. For $75, nationally known and local comedians will keep you chuckling while you enjoy an appetizer buffet and your favorite beverages, promises Ben Erjavec, executive chef and co-owner.

Blue Heron Brewery recently fortified its position among Ohio’s best breweries, earning six awards—including Best of Show—in the annual Ohio Craft Brewers Cup competition.

Blue Heron, which is well known for its in-house brews and perhaps the best outdoor patio view in Northeast Ohio, also has been drawing sellout crowds for its special events that range from holiday brunches to live entertainment.

“We just had another wildly successful murder mystery dinner theater,” Ben says. “People are starving for some fun and unique entertainment, and we deliver it.”

Previous comedy nights also have been highly popular, Ben says.

“We work with an agency that books top comedic talent,” he promises.

Speaking of top talent, the beloved Easter Bunny will be on site to take photos and mingle with the kids during another special event—Blue Heron’s annual Easter Brunch, on Easter Sunday, March 31. Two seating times will be offered. The first from 10 a.m. to noon; the later seating from 1-3 p.m. For $60 per adult and $20 for kids ages 4-12, you can share a family Easter to remember, including a complimentary champagne tower, a cash bar featuring bloody Marys, a kids buffet, crafts, a live rabbit and Easter Bunny photos. The brunch will include:

• A carving station with whole carved beef tenderloin
• Cedar plank salmon
• Chicken saltimbocca
• A gourmet salad bar
• Shrimp cocktail and crab legs
• Fresh sliced fruit
• Fresh baked danish and muffins
• Build your own pancake bar
• Waffles with toppings
• Hickory smoked bacon
• Maple sausage links
• Glazed smoked ham
• Roasted seasonal vegetables

Other upcoming special events include Blue Heron’s St. Patrick’s Day weekend igloo party—a two-hour bash for up to eight friends in a heated igloo on the outdoor patio. The event, which is available on Saturday, March 16, or Sunday, March 17, includes unlimited green beer pitchers and a themed menu that includes an appetizer platter to share, choice of entrée and dessert platter to share. The cost is $299 for your group.

When you’re not enjoying the skillfully crafted concoctions of Mike Piazza, brew master and co-owner (pictured left), onsite, you can find many in cans at select retail locations in and around Medina County.

Igloos also are available to rent on other weekends through the end of March.

While you’re making reservations, you may want to save your spot for Blue Heron’s annual Mother’s Day Brunch, on Sunday, May 12.
