Tucked back in a stately, white clapboard century home on Mentor Avenue, through a brick courtyard lies the Cosmetic Laser Medi-Spa.

“Our dream of putting a team of wellness practitioners together in a med-spa environment came true when we were offered the expanded space on the second floor of this building,” says Elaine Nelson, who owns the business along with her husband, Rocky.

She points out that everyone who works at the spa is an artist of some sort, and the eclectic vibe speaks to that. The color palette she and Rocky selected ranges from ocean blue to bright pink, neon orange and electric green.

Everywhere your eye lands within the spa suites, there is something of interest, whether it’s carved African art, sand dollars or shark’s jaws the couple has collected over the years. Elaine’s breathtaking photography of a Florida sunset sets the tone for the beachy massage suite.

“Our services began with laser hair removal, performed by plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Salamon,” says Elaine, who is a licensed cosmetic therapist as well as a respiratory therapist. “Then we just naturally branched out from there to offer massage, facials, Botox, fillers, microdermabrasion, microblading, microneedling, spider vein removal and mole and brown spot removal.”

“Everyone Can Attain Beautiful Skin”
After 39 years as a nurse, Christine Steadman went back to school to be a licensed and practice wellness from a spa perspective.

“Skin is your largest organ, and keeping it healthy results in an improved appearance,” she says. “I love when clients are thrilled with how much better I can make them look.”

In addition to custom-blended facials and peels, Chris also offers a Body Polish service, which includes a stimulating dry brushing, relaxation massage and essential oils.

“It detoxes your skin cells, and hydrates and rejuvenates its texture and tone,” she says. “I work with clients’ skin head to toe, and inside out. I recommend they use a skin care regimen at home that will produce results. That’s why we offer Image Skin Care products, which are organic and medical grade. I also consult with them about the dos (proper nutrition, daily sunscreen use) and the don’ts (smoking, bad diet, alcohol use) for attaining beautiful skin.”

Releasing Tension and Stress through Massage
Massage is a passion for both Rocky, who is both an exercise physiologist and licensed massage therapist, and Jeremiah, a licensed massage therapist. Though they perform several types of massage, from Swedish to relaxation, hot stone and aromatherapy, they say they are adept at customizing each massage to the person on the table.

“Some athletes want deeper tissue work to reach their aching muscles and joints, others are in need of facia work to release tension in the connective tissues of the body,” says Rocky.

As a retired professor of exercise physiology from Lakeland Community College, and owner of The Rock House Fitness and Wellness Center in Painesville, he draws from a broad background.

So does Jeremiah, who is a world traveler and has honed his craft at high-end spas all over the globe.
