A feast of fresh flavors awaits at Miles Farmers Market
By Laura Briedis
For the past half-century, Miles Farmers Market has played a central role in supplying families with all the staples they need to celebrate the holidays.
“We have been in town for more than 50 years, so we feel like we are family and part of everyone’s holidays,” says Justin Golobek, store manager “For Easter we have everything you need for Lenten meals, Good Friday and Easter brunch and dinner. “It’s nice to see so many familiar faces during the holidays. Customers trust us and know when they buy from us, they can be confident everything will be delicious when planning their family celebration.”
A Holiday Feast for All
“Our hams are the highest quality in town and very tasty,” Justin says. “Our Miles traditional spiral cut ham comes with a glaze packet if you want to add a bit of sweetness. We also have a fire-glazed ham, in which the brown sugar and honey glaze are torched onto the ham, so it is crispy and crunchy.”
Though ham is a traditional Easter meal, Miles Farmers Market also sells lots of kielbasa, beef brisket and lamb during Easter and Passover.
And if you don’t feel like cooking, there are plenty of ready-to-eat meals in the market’s Bistro. You will find a plethora if heat-and-serve options, including side dishes like au gratin potatoes and asparagus, to name just a few.
Fresh Out of the Oven
When it comes to Easter, everything seems to be popping up in pastel colors, and that is especially true in the Miles bakery. From the traditional lamb cake to cupcakes decorated for springtime, everything looks as pretty as it is delicious.
“We are very proud of our team of bakers who bake so many sweet treats, including the popular nut and poppyseed rolls and kolache cookies,” Justin says.
The bakers also make freshly baked bread every morning, from Italian loaves to dinner rolls, and during the holidays they also bake hot cross buns and paska. These traditional Easter breads have origins tracing back centuries to England and Romania and are still favorites for many families here in Northeast Ohio.
Chocolate Sweetens Things Up
As your one-stop shopping market, you will also find fragrant lilies, tulips, daffodils and hand-dipped chocolates scattered throughout the store.
“We dip our own milk chocolate and offer goodies like homemade turtles, chocolate pretzel rods, chocolate-covered cookies and s’mores bars,” Justin notes.
In addition to chocolate made in-house, there is a mix of local chocolatiers and European gourmet chocolates interspersed throughout the store.
“We are blessed to have the most knowledgeable and friendly employees around,” Justin says. “So if you need help with recipes or any cooking or baking tips, we are here to help.”
It’s Fish Fry Season
The Bistro at Miles Farmers Market cooks up a tasty fish fry that rivals any restaurant, pub or church.
“We make our own hand-cut and hand-battered cod, as well as fried shrimp, every day during Lent—not just on Fridays,” says Justin Golobek. “We have a fish fry station set up in our Bistro where we fry fish fresh all day, and also have fish fry meals ready in our cases so customers can just grab and go.”
The fish fry is served with fries and Miles’ own coleslaw, along with homemade tartar sauce.
In addition to the fish fry, the store is stocked with fresh seafood, including the popular Faroe Island Salmon and crab cakes, as well as meatless options in its heat-and-eat food cases.
