Soon after Mike and Theresa Paolucci had their brand-new basement floor installed, the flooding came. A collapsed drain in the front yard of their Rocky River home backed sewage into the basement, destroying the Paoluccis’ new laminate flooring.

The utility room floor, however, remained in pristine condition.

That part of the basement, Mike says, had a waterproof, polyaspartic floor coating installed by Ohio Garage Interiors.

“The part that Ohio Garage handled held up beautifully,” he reports. “We were so happy with it that even though our insurance company would only cover the cost of replacing the laminate, we decided to pay the difference and have the whole basement redone by Ohio Garage Interiors. Now we’re confident that if we ever have flooding again, our floor is going to be okay.”

For 15 years, Ohio Garage Interiors has specialized in garage enhancement, including the installation of high-end polyaspartic floor coatings, cabinets and organizational systems. As exemplified by its work at the Paolucci home, Ohio Garage Interiors has expanded its beautiful, rugged, low-maintenance flooring from the garage and into basements, indoor patios and other rooms. In fact, demand for new floors has been so strong that the company has moved away from installing garage cabinets and organizational systems to focus exclusively on floors, announced Chad Gleske, who, with his father, Scott, established and owns the company.

“Over the past few years, our flooring business has increased so much that it has made up about 75 percent of our work,” Chad says. “Flooring is where we started and what we know best, so that’s where we decided to focus our attention.”

If you’re looking for cabinets and organizing systems, Chad and Scott are still delighted to make a referral. Their employees who specialized in that side of the business have started their own company providing the same custom-made products that they created for Ohio Garage Interiors’ customers in the past.

The Back Story
As part of a full home renovation, Mike says, he originally hired another company to install an epoxy coating on his garage floor.

“The day they were supposed to do the work, they didn’t show up,” Mike recalls.

After doing online research to find a reputable replacement, Mike hired Ohio Garage Interiors. After a visit from Chad, Mike decided to have not only the garage floor done, but also the portion of the basement that he expected to get the wettest—the utility room.

“They were fantastic,” Mike says. “They were responsive, easy to work with and it ended up being less expensive than the original company.”

Chad says Ohio Garage has been getting increased inquiries about basement floors and other interior work—both residential and commercial.

“People who had their garages done have called and said they are tired of having to replace carpet,” he says. “Flooding seems to be a problem that’s happening more and more, and you never know when it’s going to happen. With a polymer floor coating, you never have to worry—and we have some very attractive options for inside the house.”

While Ohio Garage’s “deco flake” polyaspartic floor coating has been its mainstay in the garage, Chad says he has other products more suitable for interior installations. Inside, floors don’t need to handle tough tire traffic, salt and slush, so the same tough coating applied to garage floors isn’t necessary. Instead, Chad says, a more “residentially-friendly” coating can be applied.

And, he insists, they look fabulous.

Ohio Garage Interiors’ non-porous coating protects concrete from road salt, dirt and everyday spills, which can be simply swept, hosed and/or squeegeed off.

“We do solid color coatings with smooth surfaces and we also do things like metallic epoxies, which create kind of a flowing, marble type of effect,” he says. “We do decorative metallic flakes and glitter additives.”

Polymer floor coatings are becoming more popular in sun rooms and indoor patios.

“Maybe it’s time to pull up that green plastic turf and replace it with a permanent solution that is waterproof, easy to clean and looks fantastic,” Chad says.

Chad says Ohio Garage Interiors averages 15 to 20 garage floors per week. Since he and Scott started the company, they have installed more than 4,000 spectacular garage floors throughout Northern Ohio, he says.

And they’ve taken their time doing it.

“We don’t do a fast, one-day rush-job like some companies do,” Chad promises. “In fact, we do the opposite. We stand by our two-day process, which ensures that the coating is properly applied. We don’t see the point of rushing a process that will protect your garage floor for decades, and nobody has ever complained that we take too long.”

Our polyaspartic top coat is five times more durable than epoxy,” Chad says. “You won’t have to reseal the floor for at least 15 years and our polyaspartic is UV stable, so it will never turn yellow. That’s why we’re able to back our floors with a 20-year warranty.”
