“We have to continually be jumping off cliffs and developing our wings on the way down.” —Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

For Dr. Matt Gaebelein, of Brunswick Smile Keepers, the pursuit of technological advancements has been a key component of his practice’s mission.

Following dental school, he sought extensive clinical training, earning fellowship status in the Academy of General Dentistry.

His practice continually adopts leading-edge breakthroughs. In 2012, when Dr. Gaebelein researched an emerging treatment, Fastbraces, he knew he wanted to be the first, and still the only, dentist in Medina County to offer them.

“I had been working with conventional braces for 18 years at the time and was thrilled to learn about faster, more affordable braces,” he says.

As a Master Provider, he has undergone additional training since then, and perfected a large volume of patients’ teeth.

A Novel Approach to Teeth Straightening
Most dentists and orthodontists are satisfied with traditional metal braces—utilizing the same technology they’ve always followed—which means about two years of treatment and a substantial cost.

Fastbraces’ next-generation technology lies in a patented bracket design.

“These braces work on an entirely different mechanical level than traditional ones, which take the first year to move the crown of the tooth, and the second year to move the root,” he says.

“With Fastbraces, the root and crown are moved from the very beginning of treatment utilizing one wire, instead of several wires with traditional braces. I’ve already seen patients in and out of these braces, and, even in difficult cases, have been blown away by the results.”

A few more benefits of Fastbraces include:

  • Natural bite is preserved
  • In most cases does not require tooth extraction
  • Less discomfort than traditional braces

This spring, Fastbraces introduced a redesigned series of brackets called Turbo. Not surprisingly, Dr. Gaebelein was eager to adopt it.

The bracket system uses the same technology as the original version, but is even more lightweight, with ingeniously engineered brackets and square wires to apply traction, or movement, to the roots of teeth even earlier and at a faster rate.

“Without getting too technical about the mechanics, let me just say that the Turbo can accomplish in days or weeks what takes traditional braces months or years,” he explains.

“A lot can happen in 120 days.”

Who is a Candidate?
Teens with all of their adult teeth present are excellent candidates for Fastbraces Turbo. Dr. Gaebelein reports adults are also asking for the treatment.

“Adults are more open than ever to addressing little fixes, such as slightly crooked teeth, that might not have required braces back when they were kids, but are easily perfected with modern treatment,” he says.

“Turbo is faster, easier and more comfortable than spending an entire year with Invisalign.”

The results are as long-lasting as tradition braces, he reports.

“As with all methods, we recommend patients wear retainers to keep teeth from shifting. But with Fastbraces, the retainers only have to be worn 15-20 minutes per day, not 24/7 as with traditional braces.”

All the positives of less time spent in braces and less money doled out on treatment are certainly not lost on Dr. Gaebelein, who is a busy father of five.

“I’ve already treated my second son with Turbo and plan to use them on my younger children as well,” he says.
