Research has indicated that counseling that takes place via telehealth is every bit as effective as in-person counseling. And now is the ideal time to recognize that, with anxious college students headed back to campus, busy working parents struggling with childcare restrictions, and at-risk people reticent to leave their homes.

Avenues of Counseling and Mediation has had success with its HIPAA-compliant video conferencing system accessible on any camera-enabled computer screen, phone or tablet.

“Teletherapy effectively removes barriers some people might have to seeking help,” says Lisa M. Borchert, M.A. Ed., LPCC, who founded the private practice of 40 clinicians 20 years ago. “And when it comes to mental health care, the earlier intervention takes place, the better the prognosis.”

Providing greater access to care helps patients suffering from anxiety and depression, substance abuse, PTSD, OCD, trauma, ADHD and eating disorders, as well as those who need relationship enhancement for marital issues, parenting strategies and career counseling.

Teletherapy sessions are covered by insurances and Employee Assistance Programs. Copays have been waived by most insurances for a limited time.

“Time is a precious commodity, and our patients appreciate all the time, as well as enhanced privacy, that teletherapy provides them in the long run,” Lisa says.
