If fashion-forward is the direction you follow, this fall find your way to Plato’s Closet in Mentor.

The ultra-hip staff of teens and 20-somethings who are die-hard fashionistas can help guys and girls put together a new outfit, or entire wardrobe, for 70 percent less than they charge for clothes at the mall.

They’ve got you covered from head to toe in all the choice names (Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle, Hollister and H&M). From clothes to shoes and boots, designer handbags, belts, hats, scarves, jewelry and sunglasses for teens and young adults, this is a one-stop style shop.

“We follow emerging trends closely,” says Manager Samantha Urankar.

“And we love what we do. If a shopper isn’t sure what looks great on them, we enjoy putting together a few select outfits to bring out their best.”

Savvy Selection, Plus Cash on the Spot
Owned by Randi Zeid, her father Maury Rose and brother Jeff Rose, who have been in the clothing business for decades, the resale shop has earned a reputation both for its immense selection and cash-in-hand policy for those wishing to sell their gently used items.

“It’s simple,” says Randi.

“There’s no appointment. People just bring in their gently worn clothing to turn in. It takes 10-15 minutes for our staff to evaluate, then we give them money on the spot. Most of the time they shop while they’re waiting, and have new things picked out to buy with the money.”

All About the Experience
Shopping should be fun, right? That’s what the delightful ladies at Plato’s think.

The spacious and inviting store is laid out in an organized fashion. In the front, as you walk in, clothing is sorted into circular racks by name brands: PINK, American Eagle, Forever 21, and so on.

And then there’s the jeans department, which goes on forever.

“There are so many emerging designer jeans labels that are big sellers right now for men and women,” says Sam. “We offer the most up to date, gently worn styles, at a fraction of their original price.”

The most popular styles range from high-waisted (“mom” jeans) to looks that feature rips, frays and fringed edges, with a straight to slightly flared leg. The “boyfriend” jean, with a looser-fitting silhouette and cuffed leg, is also big.

“With jeans, finding the perfect fit is the goal,” says Sam. “One pair could look totally different on different people. For instance, skinny jeans look terrific on some people and not so great on others. They should bring out your best.”

She says denim is popping up in more than jeans. Check out their classic jean jackets, shirts, A-line skirts, dresses and accessories with clothing sizes that range from 0 to 20.

Unlike most resale shops, Plato’s Closet in Mentor also boasts an impressive Men’s department with trendy gently used attire (28-40-inch waist), shoes and hats, up to 70% off retail.

Is That the 1990s Calling?
“With ‘athleisure’ one of the fastest growing trends, we are seeing a resurgence of styles from the ‘90s,” says Sam.

“For guys, that means Nike and Adidas shoes. For ladies, that means rompers and stretchy jumpsuits, and athletic shoes that are getting upgraded to dressy. You can look perfectly styled in casual comfy clothes. They’re not just for the gym anymore.”
