Kids can be a pain in the butt—figuratively and literally.

About half of all pregnant women will develop hemorrhoids, either during pregnancy or at the time of delivery. Hormonal changes, an increase in bodily fluid retention and the fetus pressing against the veins can all be contributing factors.

Constipation or irregular bowel movements can get worse at the time of delivery, also resulting in the appearance of hemorrhoids.

Sometimes after pregnancy, hemorrhoids will seem to go away by themselves, but the relief is usually only temporary. Addressing the problem when it first appears can prevent it from getting worse.

Some women think they should wait until after they’re done having kids to consider treatment for their hemorrhoids, but by that time the problem may have become unbearable. And if you’ve been carrying around the pain in your rear from that special day for longer than the memory of the pain of childbirth, it’s time to finally find relief.

I offer two, non-surgical methods to treat hemorrhoids. One reduces the blood flow that feeds the hemorrhoids, improving inflammation and causing them to shrink. The other is better suited to remove larger hemorrhoids. Both take just a few seconds to do, and since they are performed in an area with no nerve endings they can be administered right in the comfort of my office without anesthesia.

There is virtually no pain, no prep needed, there are no major restrictions, and you don’t have to take time off of work. Oh, and our procedures are covered by insurance. Your family deductible is a gentle reminder that your hemorrhoids are there for a reason, so if you’ve met it for the year, now is a perfect time to get treated.
