Joshua G. Frederick has been intimately involved with NOMS Healthcare since its inception. As CEO, he works closely with Physician Leadership to improve the industry’s broken care delivery model by placing the Patient/Physician relationship as highest priority, with data and infrastructure to support the Clinicians.

It’s fitting that NOMS (Northern Ohio Medical Specialists) Healthcare is led by CEO Joshua G. Frederick, an accountant by trade and self-professed numbers guy.

He can recite a staggering amount of statistics and percentages at any given time. One of the many reasons NOMS is rapidly expanding and flourishing is because its care is based on those numbers—and the positive outcomes they produce.

In a landscape of otherwise behemoth health systems, with fewer independent doctors who are forced to spend less and less time with patients, this patient-centric healthcare group is physician-owned and physician-led.

“NOMS is like a jet ski zipping around versus larger health systems which are more like aircraft carriers,” says Josh. “We don’t have to deal with layers of bureaucracy and additional complexities of operating large, inpatient based facilities like they do.”

The NOMS model gets rid of layers of administrative burden, instead favoring data-driven coordination of care that puts the patient first.

Wrapping a Care Team Around Patients
“Our goal is to keep people out of hospitals and out of emergency rooms and ICUs. Ninety percent of healthcare can and should be provided on an out-patient basis,” says Josh. “To accomplish that we proactively wrap a team around patients for the best level of care at the lowest possible cost.”

He goes on to liken NOMS to “Switzerland,” since the physician group also gets along with the big health systems if needed and has hospital privileges at over 20 hospital based systems throughout Northern Ohio.

Within the last three years, the company has gone from 70 providers to more than 250. And they expect to double that within the next two years.

More than 50 locations are spread from Toledo to Pennsylvania. Here in Cleveland you’ll find them in Avon Lake, Beachwood, Chardon, Concord Township, Euclid, Highland Heights, Independence, Lakewood, Lorain, Lyndhurst, Mayfield Heights, Mayfield Village, Mentor, Middleburg Heights, Parma, Sheffield, Twinsburg and Westlake.

What’s a Multi-Specialty Physician Group?
“Our operations run 50-50 between primary care and specialty care,” says Josh.

The wide range of specialties includes allergy and aesthetics, dermatology, diabetology, neurology, sports medicine and eye care, just to name a few.

Here on the east side, NOMS is thrilled to introduce the specialties of a migraine center, headed up by Dr. Michelle Roda in Lyndhurst, and a Beachwood location for orthopaedics led by the world-renowned surgeon Dr. Rueben Gobezie.

“We are also thrilled to welcome Drs. Erin and Bradley Hillard to our Concord Township location,” he says. They are family medicine doctors and Dr. Brad Hillard will also be serving as NOMS new chief clinical transformation officer.

Team You
NOMS’ 360 Care Management Plan puts in place a management care team for each patient and includes a social worker, registered nurse and an advocate to provide medical support and coordinate care with the physician. Coaching, support and personalized assistance along the way is part of the program, too.

Making healthcare easier to maneuver for the patient is also a goal at NOMS, and the team takes pride in its easy-to-navigate online client portal, where patients can pay bills and manage their account with ease.

Lastly, for the record, the company name is pronounced with a long “o,” just like “gnomes,” the whimsical garden figures. In fact, to get the point across, there’s even an adorable little gnome in the lobby at headquarters.
