Nearing its 100th anniversary, the legendary Lyndhurst Lumber is still helping homeowners with projects big and small

Not many businesses can say they are preparing for a century celebration. For Lyndhurst Lumber—owned by Britt and Paulette Raburn—the milestone is built on a genuine passion and know-how for helping people build, remodel and repair their homes.
An All-American Origin Story
Lyndhurst Lumber was founded in 1921 by three brothers who were dairy farmers. Paulette’s father Paul Trumpp, a builder, took over the business in 1945 after the end of World War II.
Britt had worked at the lumberyard on and off while in college and in the service, so when Paulette’s father died suddenly in 1975, they made the decision to run the business together, even though they were both school teachers at the time.
Today, their daughter Jessica and her husband Jim Mormino—both of whom are also schoolteachers—are getting involved in the business.
“When we came up with the slogan ‘hometown pride’, we meant it,” says Britt. “All the beautiful, well-kept homes you see surrounding the lumber yard? We were actually here first. They were built after the lumberyard was built. We take pride in helping people restore and repair their homes—which were largely built around the same time—so we have to be knowledgeable with those materials.”
Over the years, Lyndhurst Lumber expanded to carry Andersen windows and doors, garage doors, roofing, flooring, paneling and composite deck materials, along with their incredible selection of hardwoods for both commercial and residential customers.
The warehouse is stacked several stories high with cut maple, oak, cherry, hickory and poplar woods from the Appalachians and soft woods from the west coast and Canada, as well as treated woods from the south.
“We also pride ourselves on offering green options, including energy-efficient products and sustainably sourced materials,” Britt adds.

Whatever wood item you have that’s broken, a wooden chair, a shelf—the craftsmen in the wood shop can fix it, as well as cut any piece of wood to your desired size or specifications.
They also carry an expansive selection of supplies that are a DIY-er’s dream, every tool needed to get your job done.
“We think of ourselves as a resource center for anything needed for home building and repair, along with the expertise to help people make it happen,” says Britt.
He explains that restoring homes to their original grandeur is a particular specialty.
“We know everything there is to know about the architecture of the Western Reserve,” he says. “If someone wants to do the job the right way, so something lasts the longest and looks the best, this is where we excel.”
If the measure of a company is how well they treat the smallest customer in relation to their biggest ones, Lyndhurst Lumber deserves all of its five-star reviews.
