In an ever-changing landscape of emerging companies and shifting benefit offerings, choosing the most appropriate Medicare plan can be confusing for seniors. And no one appreciates that as much as Steven Fine, owner of DLX Insurance Group, who this month will blow out 72 candles on his birthday cake.

As we head into the Medicare Open Enrollment period—which starts Thursday, October 15, and runs through Monday, December 7—televisions will be inundated with commercials suggesting certain company’s plans are superior to others.

“You might see Joe Namath hawking a new hotline as a good way to get answers, but the reality is that each plan has individualized implications for each senior,” says Steven, who lives in Chesterland. “This is not a one-size-fits-all situation. My obligation is to expose seniors to all the options available to them so they can make intelligent choices.”

He offers options and solutions based on each client’s specific needs to help make choosing the right insurance company, Medicare plan and plan options simple and easy.

As an independent, certified agent, Steven represents most of the top Medicare insurance companies, including UnitedHealthcare, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Humana, Aetna, Medical Mutual, and many more. He says one of the newest companies within the market—Devoted Health—offers remarkable plans for certain types of customers.

He offers a wide selection of plans that may include no co-pays, zero-dollar premiums, prescription drugs, dental, vision, over-the-counter items, transportation to doctor’s visits and more.

Following a Client-Based Approach
“Everything I do puts the client first,” he says. “I pride myself on customer service and clear and consistent communication. Building relationships is what my business is based on. To make things convenient, I either go to the client’s home to go over all the paperwork, or simply handle the process virtually via email or regular mail. Clients just initial and sign documents electronically. And they know they can call me anytime and they will get an answer.”

To that end, Steven says he reaches out to his clients several times a year to make sure they are happy with their plans, and even offers personal annual reviews to make sure they are always enrolled in the plan that continues to best fit their needs. He ensures they are not missing out on changes that might have taken place with their company or plan.

“Especially with the effect the pandemic is having on people, my services are more vital than ever,” says Steven, who has been in the industry for 40 years. “Seniors today are more worried than ever about their future. Believe me, I am in the same boat as my clients. I just want to help them work through the worry and find peace of mind.”

Steven is often asked what the “DLX” stands for in his business name. And his answer is heartwarming. It’s a tribute to his late father, who was in a wheelchair and built a successful consumer products company, Deluxe Novelties, or DLX for short, with factories throughout New York.

“I grew up in New York City with board rooms and business meetings,” he says. “When I was in my 30s, I came to Mentor to see my mother, received a job offer from New York Life to sell insurance here, took it and have been here ever since.”

DLX Insurance Group is located at 8546 Prescott Drive in Chesterland. Steven plans to work a kiosk within the Walmart on Vine Street in Eastlake starting October 12. Call to make an appointment with him for a free consultation or for more information, 440-688-3103.
