Can your cabinets use a new coat of paint? New hardware? Or, for the ultimate refresh, a refacing?

With nature waking up from its long winter’s nap—birds making nests, blossoms blooming everywhere—now is the perfect time to reset your clock to spring cleaning mode, seeing your home in the bright white light of a new day and finding ways to enhance it.

Here are a few ideas:

• Clear the Way: Clutter in every room could be dragging you down. Pick up each item on your counters and ask yourself how much you love it. Does it really make a positive impact in your life? If not, you’re better off without it.

• Thinking Green: Add a boost of life to any room with a festive plant. Think outside the box. Hit your local garden supplier and buy a dwarf orange or olive tree and place it in a cheery pot as a focal point.

• Cue the Color: There are many ways to infuse your home with a pop of vibrance…throw pillows in bold geometric patterns (so hot this spring), accent rugs in funky shades, dazzling baskets that pull double duty and organize, too.

• About Face: Take stock of the room you spend the most time in—the kitchen. One of its biggest elements is cabinetry. Can your cabinets use a new coat of paint? New hardware? Or, for the ultimate refresh, a refacing?

The cabinet refacing process has come a long way, and nowadays there are a wide variety of options, custom colors and styles, with the boost of added functionality. Although white and cream-colored cabs are the most popular, classic shades of pale grays and tans are on trend, as well as daring accent pops of Kelly green or cobalt blue.

You can go from a beaten-up oak or maple to a high-gleam white laminate, or glass fronts to show off your treasures. And it all comes at a fraction of the price of new cabinets.
