Long before ingredients like fruit enzymes and retinol became ubiquitous in beauty products, people have been tapping into water for its therapeutic qualities to clean, heal and relax the body.

Combining the centuries-old healing powers of water and the latest technology, Exhale Spa at University Hospitals Avon Health Center has just introduced the Hydrodermabrasion Oxygen Facial. Utilizing the natural healing properties of water and oxygen to effortlessly, and painlessly, exfoliate the skin, this treatment has fast become a favorite among celebrities and is now available in our area.

“The aqua peeling treatment is suitable for all skin types and is ideal for people with sensitive skin,” says Dana Doheny, Exhale Spa supervisor. “It really plumps your skin and diminishes the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and scars, as well as refines pores, resulting in softer, smoother skin.”

In addition to a glycolic solution added to the water, the oxygen is infused with different serums to customize the facial to each client’s needs. The esthetician uses an airbrush-like implement to infuse various serums into the skin, including anti-aging, plumping and acneic serums.

“The oxygen portion of the facial promotes collagen production, restoring volume and firmness to skin that has lost elasticity,” comments Dana. “It also helps to detox the skin and reverse the effects of environmental pollutants. After the 60-minute facial, you will feel hydrated and refreshed.”

LED Light Treatment
Exhale Spa has also added light therapy to its spa menu this fall. Light therapy uses natural light of different colors (wavelengths) to treat different skin conditions, including rosacea.

“LED Light Treatment is natural, safe and effective, providing many benefits,” explains Dana.

“Every color of light works in a different way, but the overall experience is the same, resulting in a more even skin tone, reduction in redness, flushing and broken capillaries, and faster healing of bumps and pimples. We are excited to add this advanced technology to our spa so area residents can reap the benefits.”

This 30-minute treatment can be done on its own or as an add-on to any facial.

“This is the perfect time for a facial, as it helps repair damage the sun has caused over the summer,” notes Dana.

Spa-ing Your Way to Wellness
Exhale Spa is nestled inside the bustling 60,000-square-foot Fitness Center at University Hospitals Avon Health Center, giving it a more medical focus.

“We have added the new physician-formulated skin care line of Image Skin Care,” says Dana. “The Image MD line approaches beauty from a cellular level with more retinol boosters to enhance your current skin care regimen.”

In addition to skin care, Exhale Spa also focuses on relaxation and stress reduction. The menu is replete with massages, reflexology, reiki and ionic foot detox. Plus, manicures, pedicures, waxing, makeup applications and eyelash and brow tinting will have you looking your best.

When booking a service at Exhale Spa, you get a complimentary pass to enjoy all of the fitness center’s amenities before and after your salon services, including the whirlpool, sauna and steam room.

“Our focus is on overall wellness,” comments Dana. “Not only will you look beautiful after leaving the spa, you’ll also feel amazing.”
