Heading into the New Year, with its hopelessly hopeful sense of renewal and possibility, instead of just resolving to lose weight and get in shape, this year why not put yourself in the hands of professionals?

MaxStrength Fitness takes a transformative, science-based premise—20-minute workouts, twice a week—to effect change in the body.

Founder Jeff Tomaszewski is more than just a follower of the science behind his studio’s protocol, he’s a contributor to it. When he was a graduate student studying exercise physiology at Case Western Reserve University in 2000, he wrote his master’s thesis on a case study he created exploring the benefits of a strength training program with 10- to 16-year-old Clevelanders.

“I was initially introduced to this style of twice-per-week, intensive strength training—with sessions geared to produce muscle fatigue—by a colleague,” he says. “The kids in my study who followed this modality gained more strength and overall cardiovascular efficiency. It was eye-opening. Although I was skeptical in the beginning, that less time could produce greater results, after I pinpointed the science behind it, I wanted to share it with others.”

MaxStrength’s one-on-one training sessions with high-tech computerized exercise equipment are challenging. They’re also super convenient. Since studio temps are pleasantly set in the 60s, clients can pop in on their lunch hour and head back to work without needing a shower.

“The results stand for themselves,” says Jeff. “Our clients gain muscle mass, flexibility and energy, as well as lose body fat. They even sleep better.”

Here Are Their Stories
On any given day, when you walk into the studio, you’ll find a group of dedicated trainers and equally dedicated trainees. What keeps them coming back? We’ll let them tell you…

“What I love most about MaxStrength is that their goal is your goal. They don’t just want to improve your fitness; they care about your quality of life. In over three years training here, I have never once been bored, because they avoid monotony through variation.”—Jenny Bartell, 45, project manager

“Since you don’t need to shower as you don’t work up a sweat during the session, this is an easy fit during my lunch hour. And I wouldn’t have stuck with it if I wasn’t very impressed with the results.”

—Fred DiSanto, 56, CEO of Ancora, a financial advisory firm

“I have had friends who have experienced falls and their health in general declines afterward. Balance is really important to me. The trainers are experts at balancing my upper and lower body muscle groups, all stabilized by a strong core. I plan to keep doing the things I’ve always done for a long time.”—Kathy Gabler, 70-something executive retiree

“It was important to me to build up muscle in my legs, because it seems as you age, the legs are the first to go, and they are so important in balance and keeping you involved in a greater number of everyday activities. I like that my muscles are pushed to failure on each exercise.”

—Jim Hackenberg, 70-something attorney

The Spirit of Giving Back
Throughout the year, Jeff and his big-hearted training team give back to the communities around them. And that means they are all-in, beyond just writing a check (but they do that, too).

In August, Jeff traded in his title of Chief Life Transformer for Chief Break Dancer, as part of a celebrity dance team that competed in the Dancing Under the Stars charity event to support Lifeline, Inc. and the Family Planning Association of Northeast Ohio.

“No worries, I won’t be quitting my day job,” he says, laughing. “It was a great opportunity to generate funds and awareness for these amazing organizations. Our team raised more than $23,000 to help the less fortunate.”

Check out their site for coverage of the big night and Jeff’s team tearing up the dance floor.

“It’s just part of our culture to give back and raise awareness for meaningful local and national causes, such as Prayers from Maria and the American Heart Association,” says Jeff.
