When my son was born, a doctor who I had never met was the attending physician. As I was being prepped for a C-section, I did not know anything about him except his name. In that moment, I missed the familiarity of having my obstetrician-gynecologist there at the birth.

The chances of having the same doctor who saw you through prenatal care deliver your baby are better when going to a smaller practice with individualized care.

“I originally worked in a hospital-owned group with other partners, but decided five years ago to join Dr. Anthony Gingo in private practice,” says OB/GYN Dr. Kimberly Kraus. “I wanted to be in a practice where I could see my patients from the beginning of their pregnancy until the end.”

“I get to deliver almost all of my patients’ babies and if, for some reason, I am not available, my partner Dr. Gingo will be there for them,” she says.

“Most OB/GYN practices these days are larger making it less likely that your doctor will be the one who will be there for you at the time of your delivery. If I am taking care of someone throughout their pregnancy, I want to be there to see the miraculous moment of their delivery.”

For Alyssa Cramer of Brunswick, Dr. Kraus was there for the birth of all three of her children.

“It was important for me to have my doctor there for the delivery, and, if for some reason she could not, I also felt comfortable with her partner,” says Alyssa, whose third child was born last month.

“You build a strong bond with your doctor,” she adds. “It is important to have a doctor with a compassionate bedside manner. Dr. Kraus always listens to your concerns, answers your questions and you never feel rushed. She makes you feel like you are her top priority.”

“I get to know my patients and develop a strong doctor-patient relationship,” inserts Dr. Kraus.

“It is comforting to expectant moms to know I will be there with them throughout the whole process. And in the rare occurrence that I am unable to be there for the birth, my partner, Dr. Gingo, will deliver the baby. He usually does the first ultrasound for my patients, so they are also familiar with him.”

Kind and Compassionate
A mother of three, Dr. Kraus can relate to her patients. She was pregnant with twins during her first year in medical school and had preterm labor, so she has experienced many of the same issues her patients have.

“My mission is to provide the best quality care in a kind and compassionate way while exemplifying the love of God,” she comments. “My patients have my full attention when they come in for appointments, as I am here to help them and listen to them.”

Growing up in Middleburg Heights, Dr. Kraus did not stray far from home. She has been on staff at Southwest General Hospital since 1999. Many of her patients are nurses and doctors who turn to her for their own health and wellness—a telltale sign of a physician who is tops in his or her field.

“I am passionate about helping all women, as my youngest patient is 12 and oldest is 99,” says Dr. Kraus, who volunteers every month at a prenatal care clinic and goes on a mission trip to Haiti every fall.

Locally, she volunteers at Womankind, a maternal and prenatal care center in Garfield Heights that offers free prenatal care for the first 28 weeks of pregnancy.

“It is so rewarding to be able to give back to the community doing what I love,” says Dr. Kraus. “I am so blessed to be able to be with women throughout the most important times of their lives.”

Though she has delivered countless numbers of babies over the past two decades, Dr. Kraus doesn’t keep stats, but does keep every thank you card she has received from families. She even has a photo sitting on her desk with two children holding a pregnancy strip test with the words “Will you be my OB/GYN?” inscribed on the frame that a patient gave her and now is a cherished gift.

In-office Procedures
Practicing both obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Kraus specializes in the MonaLisa Touch for vaginal rejuvenation.

A painless laser procedure, the MonaLisa combats vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, urinary incontinence and recurring vaginal infections. This in-office procedure, which takes approximately five minutes, is done without anesthesia and has no downtime.

“This FDA-approved laser appealed to me as a non-invasive, non-hormonal, non-surgical option,” says Dr. Kraus. “It revitalizes the vagina by stimulating collagen and elastin within the vaginal wall, helping to restore vaginal pH and lubrication to levels similar to that of women in their 30s.”

“The MonaLisa Touch is the only technology for vaginal and vulvar health with more than 18 published clinical studies,” she adds. “It has been one of the best things I have ever been able to offer to my patients—especially to my breast cancer survivors. It has been life changing for so many of our clients.”

Another in-office procedure that Dr. Kraus offers is uterine ablation treatments to treat heavy periods. This procedure can stop or significantly lessen periods in women finished having children.

“As women’s health specialists, Dr. Gingo and I provide personal gynecological care for women of all ages,” says Dr. Kraus. “We are passionate about serving women in our community.”
