Boosting collagen

Collagen-induction therapy, or micro-needling, is one of the hottest forms of facial rejuvenation available today. Cynthia Baecker, a medical esthetician at Revive Regenerative Medical Spa, has spent years perfecting her technique. 

“I make four passes over the skin with the SkinPen,” she says. “I start at the top of the forehead and go down, then go from side to side, then top to bottom at one angle and top to bottom at the other.”

Cynthia’s technique produces thousands of micro channels that kick the body’s wound healing response into high gear. “It’s a cascade effect,” she explains. 

“Your skin thinks it’s wounded so it signals growth factors and blood platelets to go to that area to ‘heal’ the wound. That healing includes new collagen growth, fading lines and wrinkles and the elimination of hyperpigmentation.”

Cynthia applies a topical anesthetic for 30 minutes and the procedure takes about 45 minutes. She applies hyaluronic acid to the face to help the SkinPen easily glide. 

You won’t leave bloody, just a little red, she says, and can wear makeup the following day. “You have to let the inflammation response happen, so just leave your face alone,” she advises.

Revive recommends a series of three treatments spaced a month apart. Single treatments are $349 each, or you can purchase a package of three at 10 percent off. If you buy the package, an aftercare kit is included free of charge.

“This is an affordable alternative to laser treatment,” Cynthia says. “And if you do it in conjunction with chemical peels, you’ll really love the result.”
