If you are looking for a non-invasive way to rejuvenate your skin, look no further than your own collagen.

The most abundant protein in your body, collagen provides structure to your skin and acts as an adhesive to hold your body together. As you age, however, collagen production slows down and your skin becomes thinner and less firm.

To help you stimulate more collagen production, Skin Care Solutions Elite Medispa is now offering microneedling. Heralded by A-List celebrities who want to look more youthful, this innovative skincare treatment not only diminishes fine lines and wrinkles, but also can be used for acne scars, chickenpox scars, post-surgical scars and stretch marks.

What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a non-surgical procedure that uses your body’s own wound healing process to encourage cellular turnover and collagen production. Microneedling creates “micro-injuries” to the skin.

“The ultra-fine needles create tiny holes in the skin, which stimulate new collagen production and tighten the skin,” explains Kelly Roberts, a certified nurse practitioner who works in all three of SCS Elite Medispa offices.

From diminishing fine lines and wrinkles on your face to stretch marks on your stomach, microneedling can target small or large areas, anywhere on the body.

“It also helps minimize pore size, brown spots and other pigment issues,” says Kelly, noting she can treat all skin types.

Microneedling is gaining popularity among busy clients because it takes less than an hour with virtually no downtime.

“I apply numbing medication on the skin before the treatment and then move a pen-like device over the patient’s skin, puncturing the epidermis,” explains Kelly. “I also rub on a stem cell growth factor serum that penetrates the skin through those small holes.”

After the treatment, there is a little redness that subsides in a couple of days. Clients are given a take-home kit that includes a cleanser, copper and sunscreen. “Copper is an excellent, natural wound healer and will further decrease any redness or pinkness,” says Kelly.

“Clients will notice some immediate improvements, with full results in six to eight months, showing off smoother, firmer, glowing skin,” she says. “My clients range from women in their 30s who want to improve their skin tone and texture, to men who have acne scarring, to seniors who want to minimize wrinkles.”

Dermaplaning
In addition to adding microneedling to its service menu this year, SCS Elite Medispa is now offering dermaplaning.

A safe and effective way to remove weeks of dead skin cells and peach fuzz, dermaplaning reveals ultra-smooth, fresh skin. The practitioner uses a scalpel to gently scrape off dead skin cells on the surface of your skin, resulting in a healthier glow immediately.

“This treatment is pain-free and has zero downtime,” says Kelly, noting it can be done during a lunch hour. “Think of dermaplaning as a deep exfoliation that creates a perfect canvas for makeup application.”

The Importance of Sunscreen
While sunscreen use is recommended year-round—even on cloudy days—it is especially important in the summer.

Not only can harmful UV rays lead to skin cancer, exposure to the sun causes collagen to deteriorate, which can lead to sagging skin and premature aging.

“Wearing sunscreen is the most affordable anti-aging thing you can do,” says Victoria Conley, aesthetic consultant.

At SCS Elite Medispa, you can shop two of the best professional-grade sunscreens lines. Image’s Prevention Plus is an oil-free, broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen that also doubles as a protective primer to use before makeup application. And Obagi’s Sunshield Broad Spectrum SPF 50 is a tinted sunscreen that gives your skin a healthy glow while protecting your skin from the sun.

Injectables and Fillers
As a physician-directed medical spa, Kelly works alongside Drs. Dana Bonezzi, Debra Fast and Kathleen Fearon, who are master injectors, to offer facial rejuvenation.

More than just getting rid of the “elevens” between your eyes and “parentheses” around your mouth, there is an art to using injectables and fillers to bring out your best features.

The newest injectable the spa offers is Sculptra. What makes it unique is that it stimulates your skin’s own natural collagen production to increase overall facial volume. It works subtly and gradually over time for results that can last more than two years.

“The goal of all our services is to achieve natural-looking results that make you look refreshed,” says Kelly. “We want you to look as young as you feel.”
