When Bob Gallese, founder of Acclaim Renovations & Design, was a small boy, his grandfather taught him the meaning of the old carpenter’s proverb, “measure twice, cut once.”

And he’s kept that spirit of preparation before action alive throughout his 40-plus years in the home renovation business.

“Making sure we’ve covered every detail in a job that might possibly go wrong before hammering the first nail is our way of guaranteeing things go smoothly,” says Bob.

“We established a Five-Step Process to use as a framework for every job. Throughout the process, everyone involved is on the same page.”

Here’s how he came up with the framework six years ago: Bob sits on several national roundtables for the remodeling industry. At one of the meetings, the importance of streamlining your actions and making them available to clients was discussed. He liked what he heard in terms of reaching for a higher level of professionalism, so when he returned to Cleveland, he sat down with the folks in his company and hammered out the Five-Step Process.

From beginning to end, the organization-oriented process includes:

1. Initial questionnaire – filled out online by the potential customer
2. In-home consultation – a time for Acclaim to take measurements and discuss all the details of the job
3. Project review – takes place in the Acclaim showroom. You’ll review sketches on a large flat screen, make changes, and go over the written proposal
4. You choose to go forward – now you can log into the Co-Construct communications app, make product selections, and schedule appointments to make other vendor selections, such as plumbing and electrical
5. Coordinating the start dates – once you’ve pulled the trigger, Bob will put you on the schedule.

“Bringing clients on board with Co-Construct allows for 24/7 access between them and everyone else on our team,” he says.
