When it comes to bathroom transformations, oftentimes big things can be accomplished in tiny spaces.

Take, for instance, this master bath makeover, which is a case study in stylish design and devotion to details.

Over the past 44 years in the renovation business, Bob Gallese, owner of Acclaim Renovations & Design, has transformed people’s living spaces, always keeping in mind what will best represent their design style, lifestyle and bring the highest return on their investment.

“With this job, we pulled out a small fiberglass shower unit and created a larger, more functional one,” he says.

Katie Capek, the interior designer at Acclaim, explains they were able to marry a sleek design—with waterproof ceramic tiles that mimic the look of wood planks for a rustic look, juxtaposed with off-white tiles and a quartz shower seat—functional features such as two symmetrical built-in niches for shampoo, etc., as well as a shower head that allows the owners to control the water temperature, even from their phones.

The “wood” planks run from the bathroom floor to the accent wall and even the shower ceiling, which visually expands the space.

Bob says the Schluter linear shower drain they used for this job, in which water slopes away from the door toward the wall drain, allowed them to build a barrier-free shower, which is absolutely on-trend.

“The emphasis on master baths today lies on larger, more spa-like showers and smaller tubs or even no tubs,” he explains. “Along with a floor-to-ceiling glass door that swings out, this finished look is clean, sophisticated and streamlined.”

He also says part of the appeal of a barrier-free shower is the design is perfect for seniors with mobility issues who may wish to age in place and stay in their homes longer.

“Plus, you can opt for this type of shower with any design style, from modern to rustic,” he says. “Our designers like to unleash their creativity, no matter how big or small the job.”
