By: Gary Jones-Ideal Pest Control

Nothing shuts down the fun of an outdoor activity like someone getting stung by a wasp or yellow jacket. Especially in the spring and summer, when we see plenty of nests in, on, and around homes.

The best way to protect your family is by preventing stinging insects from nesting near you. And the best way to do that is with a structural power spray, which is not the same thing as a pressure wash.

At Ideal Pest Control, we spray your house with appropriate products designed to kill insects and prevent them from nesting. We spray the entire structure, including peaks, eaves, windows, soffits, shutters, corner posts, doorways, handra ...

How CVCC prepares the nurses of tomorrow

by mimivanderhaven.com on 08/05/2015 - 12:15 pm
Category: Community

By Mimi VanderhavenThe American Indian proverb, “Never criticize a man until you’ve walked a mile in his moccasins” is a classic play on the importance of empathy. Until you truly feel what others are feeling, it’s difficult to relate to them on a meaningful level.

For Pattie Mandula, supervisor of the nursing school at Cuyahoga Valley Career Center, the journey to a higher level of empathy began as a means of better interacting with her mother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. She believed that people would treat her mom differently if they had an idea of what she was going through.

This led to Pattie’s development of the Sensory D ...

By Janet Cinadr-Director of Nursing, Regina Health Center

By the year 2030 there will be 72 million Americans over the age of 65, more than twice their number in 2000, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

With a spike in this aging population, the demand for qualified caregivers is also on the rise.

Regina Health Center is one of 10 clinical sites throughout the Cleveland area that partners with nursing students from Cuyahoga Valley Career Center.

From December through February, we teach three groups of eight students managed by an instructor. They work with patients hands-on, helping them with daily living activities like fe ...

By Mike Ventresca-Owner, Vital Choice Healthstore

What does a stubbed toe have to do with your risk of having a heart attack or developing cancer? More than you may realize.

Over the past several years, scientists have confirmed a strong link between inflammation and many diseases, including arthritis, cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s disease. It’s pretty simple—the more inflamed you are, the greater your risk of developing one of these diseases.

Does this mean all inflammation is bad? No.

In fact, inflammation is necessary for a variety of purposes, including helping an injury to heal or to remove toxins. The problems start w ...

Hemorrhoids at any age

By Dr. David Gutman, Advanced Hemorrhoid Specialists
Many people think that hemorrhoids mainly affect pregnant women and the elderly. And while it is true that these groups often do suffer, the reality is that hemorrhoids can develop in anyone at any age. From kids in their upper teens to people well into their 90s, hemorrhoids affect up of 75 percent of the population, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Young adults who lift weights or exercise with intensity can and do get hemorrhoids. But because they think they’re too young, or they don’t know the symptoms, these folks don’t typically recognize what’s happening “down there” as be ...

I don’t need life insurance

By Kim Larimer, The May Group

No one can clear a room faster than a life insurance agent. After all, life insurance is not a topic we like to talk about. We don’t want to think about the lives of our loved ones without us around. And even worse is the thought of our own lives without our loved ones.

Plus, we are all going to live forever…right?

As much as I wish that were true, the famous quote, “No one here gets out alive” is the uncomfortable reality. As unpleasant as it is to think of the scenarios above, it is just as unpleasant to look for answers when it comes to protecting your loved ones—and to not have the correct inform ...

Imagine the possibilities

by mimivanderhaven.com on 07/29/2015 - 02:19 pm
Category: Smart Living

I recently spoke with a couple in their mid 50s who had been working for the last several decades and taking care of their family. Like many people, they had reached a stage in life where they could begin to think about themselves and the next stage of their lives. They had paid off the mortgage on their home and their children had completed their educations. They were putting 10–15% of their income into their retirement plans and trying to catch up on all the years they had under-contributed while paying for everyone else.

As we talked we discussed what life would look like for them over the next 10 years, when they decided that they didn’t want to work eight hours a da ...

Healing headaches in the dental chair

by mimivanderhaven.com on 07/22/2015 - 02:55 pm
Category: Health & Beauty

Used in tandem, dental implants and Botox can reduce or eliminate migraines, says Dr. Vladimir Pastouk, of Dental and Cosmetic Solutions.

Q: Chronic headaches are interfering with my daily activities. My friend suggested I visit the dentist, but what good will that do?A: You should heed your friend’s advice, especially if you are missing teeth or some of your teeth are broken or worn. Think of the anatomy of your mouth as a tripod. If any part of the structure is missing or weakened, the three-pronged support becomes a double support. This creates a bigger workload and places increased pressure on the jaw’s temporomandibular joint (TMJ), ultimately changing how your mus ...
