Now that school is out for the summer, I have been actively searching for some fun, yet educational things for my twin 6 year old girls to do. Recently, I stumbled on an activity that has been going on for awhile now, Buehler's on Rt 303 in Brunswick has the best- kept secret story times on Monday mornings! This past Monday, we attended one and I have to say how impressed all of us were.  The book, a favorite of ours, was "The Tiny Seed" by Eric Carle. After the reading with Ms. Cindy, the kids got to decorate a small bowl and planted a Marigold in it to take home. Then the kids created an edible flower from a rice cake, cream cheese, chocolate chips, cheese, a pretzel r ...

I was much more successful in the kitchen this week, albeit less adventurous.  I had two long weekend trips in a row (resulting in a combined 40 hours in the car with a one year old) and dined at more restaurants than I have all year.  It was all a lot of fun, but has been nice to be home and cooking for myself.  After last week’s less than perfect experiment I decided to play it safe for a little bit.
I loved the taco theme of the Fresh Fork basket.  In my bag I got grass-fed ground beef, strawberries, tomatoes, lettuce, corn chips, green onions, cilantro, zucchini, Swiss chard, and a dozen eggs.  My good friends got my bag for me sin ...

Sometimes I am too adventurous as a chef.  Usually, my ability to adapt recipes, or throw a meal together out of the random ingredients I have on hand is a good thing.  Last night I think I overstepped my skills.
This week’s Fresh Fork Market package included locally made chorizo sausage, some fresh pasta, a half gallon of milk from Snowville Creamery, a bunch of garlic scapes, a head of lettuce, some tomatoes, some beautiful strawberries, and a package of spelt berries.  I was very excited to jump right in and whip up some outstanding culinary creations with these great products, but this has been a crazy week for me, leaving me with only two d ...

I guess I was feeling a little overconfident because Overload really ramped up the heat over the past couple of workouts. I was beginning to think it wasn’t really THAT difficult, which really meant my body was catching on to the method so they started really pushing me. This is definitely the most intense 20-30 minutes ever!!  The trainers (I have worked with three now) remain motivational and supportive.  They always immediately notice any breaks in form and when the challenge needs to be increased to “empty the tank”. The diet is beginning to settle in a bit as well too. The tracker really shows what I am doing that works, and wha ...

I was so excited to get my first bag of groceries from Fresh Fork Market.  After picking it up last Friday (a very quick and easy process) I rushed home and excitedly examined my goods.  I opened the bag and smelled all of the fresh lettuce, cilantro, radishes and tomatoes.  I exclaimed over the organic yogurt and cornmeal.  And there at the bottom of the bag, staring at me was a whole pasture-raised chicken…
To many of you this may not be a big deal, but I am the queen of the boneless skinless chicken breast.  I rarely cook bone-in chicken and have never cooked a whole bird before.  What on earth was I going to do with a wh ...

I entered Mimi's Fabulous Makeover Contest fully expecting to NOT win.  I was shocked, to say the least, when the call came.  The shock changed to excitement and then to trepidation as my first meeting with Jeff at Overload Fitness approached.  My first meeting consisted of a lot of talking: Jeff explaining the Overload Protocol, which is completely different than anything I have ever seen and then listening intently to me to help develop a program and goals.  Jeff definitely inspired confidence in me both that he was knowledgeable and that I could achieve my goals with the program.  We finished with a visit to the exercise room (it is defin ...
