For Dr. Chrys Constantinou, returning to Westlake Dental Associates was like coming home. He’d practiced here in 2010 as an associate and became well acquainted with the families and staff.

“I had such a great experience that when it came time for me to head up my own practice, I decided to do it here and purchased Westlake Dental in December,” he says.

Along with offering a family-friendly feeling, Dr. Constantinou brings with him a devotion to amassing the latest world-class technology in the field, starting with 3-D cone beam X-rays and Cerec (Ceramic Reconstruction), so lab work can be performed in house.

“By having the ability to take a 3-D image of the tooth and the teeth surrounding it, and have that uploaded to the Cerec computer to mill a new tooth out of ceramic, I have the ability to perform one-day crowns and implants,” says Dr. Constantinou. “Not only is the process faster, with better results, but it also costs far less, since there is only one appointment instead of several.”

If he sounds intensely excited to be one of the few dentists on the west side to offer this technology, it’s because Dr. Constantinou maintains a high level of continuing education with some of the best implant facilities in the world. Teaming up with Dr. Constantinou in the practice at Westlake Dental Associates is Dr. Michael Mayer. A graduate of the Case Western Reserve University School of Dentistry, he holds the prestigious honor of being a past president of the Ohio State Dental Board. (He also plays polka music on his accordion.)

“Dr. Constantinou and I share a true kinship,” says Dr. Mayer. “Our philosophy on dentistry is parallel—to treat our patients in an environment of care, humor, and compassion. They are all like family. And we stand by our work 100%.”

In addition to regular check-ups, both doctors perform the gamut of dental services, from fillings to crowns, bridges, veneers, inlays, onlays, placement and restoration of implants for missing teeth, extractions of unsalvageable teeth, cosmetic teeth whitening, invisible braces, dentures and partial dentures, balancing the bite, night guards for grinding, snore guards, athletic guards, and TMJ pain/disorder relief.

Dr. Constantinou says that no matter the service, he treats the whole person, not just the teeth. “I evaluate risk versus reward, for instance whether it’s wisest in the long term to save a tooth or replace it,” he says. And it’s largely due to this compassionate level of care that the practice treats many multi-generational families. “I encourage parents to bring their children in for a fun visit so they can experience a ride in the chair and learn why we do the things we do,” he says. “Being Greek, family is central to my life and it’s what drives me to practice dentistry. When caring for patients, I give the same advice I would give my mother, or my wife.”

After growing up in the suburbs of Boston, he graduated with honors from the University of Massachusetts and then attended Boston University School of Dental Medicine. In 2008, this Westlake resident moved to the area with his wife, Niki, and welcomed a son and a daughter. In addition to taking care of his own family, Dr. Constantinou likes to share his talents to help others. He travels to the Dominican Republic with an international team of general dentists, periodontists, and oral surgeons every year to donate his time and skills to hundreds of needy patients.
