The Best Furniture way

Is there any purchase on Earth as exhilarating as buying furniture?

The Williams family—owner of Best Furniture in Mentor for two generations—answers soundly in the negative, offering a thrilling shopping experience for anyone who loves beautifully made furniture.

Founded by Robert and Dolores Williams, the booming operation is now run by their son, Jim.

All you need for every room in your home, from beds to barstools, sofas to side tables, is on display here. About 90 percent of the stock is from Ashley, which makes Best Furniture one of the largest dealers of Ashley Furniture in Ohio.

And thanks to that high volume, customers no longer have to wait for their purchases. Most non-custom orders will be delivered within 48 hours.

Take a Seat in Sumptuous Style

Sofas and sectionals take up a sizable footprint in the 15,000-square-foot showroom.

If there is one sectional people cannot get enough of, General Manager Brandon Morse says it’s the Maier. This stunning piece—which was their biggest seller in 2016—calls to mind the perfect one-two-three punch of elegant style, maximum seating space and supreme comfort.

“With a sofa and chaise lounge people can select for either side, the Maier features plush boxed seating and back cushions,” says Brandon. “It comes in charcoal, sienna and walnut, brings clean, modern lines into any décor, and it’s only $659.”

Brandon says more and more customers are looking for motion in their family room seating, and that this year they’ve brought in a nice selection of the latest reclining options.

“Once you’ve actually propped your feet up and reclined in one of these, the comfort level makes it irresistible,” he says. “And the engineering of the sofas and sectionals has advanced to the point that they make a great fit in any family room. They only require three inches from the wall to offer the perfect recline—optimum for television viewing.”

The store has also earned a strong reputation as the best place in town to purchase mattresses and adjustable beds.

“I would say adjustable beds are one of our fastest growing products,” says Brandon. “For health reasons, such as acid reflux, people are realizing the importance of sleeping with the upper body slightly elevated. And for those who like to read in bed or sit up watching TV while their spouse sleeps, it’s nice that our beds adjust differently on both sides.”

Browsing Through a Virtual Catalog

Sometimes it’s difficult for people to visualize what a piece looks like from a fabric swatch. With Best Furniture’s Wondersign system, via a 48-inch flat screen, customers can tap their way to customizing and viewing any piece of Ashley furniture.

“They can create literally thousands of options,” says Brandon. “And if a customer orders from one of our Wondersigns and does not like the furniture when it is delivered, it can be sent back on the delivery truck and we will give a full refund. We are the only dealer that offers that in this area.”

Keeping the Embers Aglow

One of the hottest trends in home decor (no pun intended) is adding a fireplace to a room. Whether it’s a dining room, study, basement, master bedroom or bathroom, Best offers several lines of fireplaces housed in television stands, or, for bedrooms, within a dresser.

“The pieces offer five levels of heat, or no heat,” says Brandon. “They add a welcoming, luxurious ambiance to any setting.”

One of the newest fireplaces, the Rogness, is nearly six feet long, and uses rocks and crystals to create an inviting landscape fire display.

New Wall Art Gallery

The recently opened wall art gallery features hundreds of canvas wall hangings, ranging from classic Monet-inspired water lilies to delicate oils of ballerinas from Degas, bold florals from O’Keeffe, vintage Italian and German poster-looks, as well as serene naturescapes.

Stacked 30 feet high like a mini museum, the stock is always changing, and Brandon reports at any given time there are about 300 works of art on display.

They come in sizes small, medium and large to niche perfectly into any space in your home. And the prices are absurdly affordable, from $9-$15.

Treating the Customer with Care

Unlike most large-volume furniture dealers, Best’s sales team is strictly salary-based. You will not be hounded or followed upon entering the front door.

“Also, most of our salespeople started within the company as delivery people and installers, so when they work with customers they have an intricate been-there, done-that knowledge of how each piece is constructed,” says Brandon.

Though they offer honest, upfront pricing and don’t throw sales, Best Furniture does have package specials for those buying several rooms of furniture, from 5-25 percent off, perfect for the upcoming tax return season.
