Aaron Baker wants to be perfectly clear: He believes The Atrium at Anna Maria is redefining senior living. He invites seniors to experience The Atrium life.

“The definition of retirement and senior living is expanding and this property provides a unique opportunity for us to meet these changes. Seniors today want continued engagement, choice and an enhanced lifestyle. Basically, they want to define senior living for themselves.” says Aaron, an administrator for The Campus of Anna Maria’s third generation of family ownership and operation.

Building on the quality care, comfortable surroundings and engaging social activities and recreational programs that the family has provided seniors since 1964, The Atrium at Anna Maria will feature 73 independent living apartments, 23 assisted living apartments and 31 assisted living/memory care apartments.

The apartments will surround more than 20,000 square feet of common space designed to encourage exercise, relaxation, socialization and intellectual interaction among residents who, Aaron hopes, will feel like they are living at an upscale, but affordable, resort.

“We’re providing an opportunity for folks to enjoy staying active, even in the winter,” he says of The Atrium, slated to open in the fourth quarter of this year. “We’ll have an indoor walking path, a fitness center and an indoor pool coupled with social spaces, a bistro, lounge, movie theater, dining hall and billiards room, among other amenities.”

Included in the common space is a 10,000-square-foot Atrium Room with three skylights which adds to the charming views and ambiance of the patios and gardens that surround the entire area.

Residents will enjoy an enclosed, sun-drenched courtyard with a patio eating area, fire pit and putting green. Lush gardens and
a fountain will enliven another enclosed courtyard.

“The Atrium living is centered on experiencing the vitality and enjoyment of life,” adds Diane Barben, director of marketing and The Atrium’s leasing agent.

Other amenities include a salon and spa, a grand dining hall and library. Onsite exercise classes, book clubs, happy hours, musical performances, lectures, garden clubs, religious services and programs will stimulate the mind, body and spirit of our residents.

Adventuresome residents may enjoy offsite visits to Kent State University sporting and cultural events, Blossom Music Center performances, Severance Hall, museums, shopping centers, golf courses, parks, wineries and other venues.

Residents may also savor a variety of delicious and nutritious chef-prepared meals. Independent living residents receive one meal a day, with the option of preparing other meals and snacks in their kitchen or grabbing a bite at The Atrium’s bistro. Assisted living and memory care residents receive all meals.

Important to residents and their loved ones is the nurturing, hands-on care that has made Anna Maria one of the area’s most respected senior living communities. Carrying on the tradition of the existing campus, The Atrium offers assistance based upon each resident’s needs.

An interdisciplinary team, consisting of a physician, nurses, nurse practitioners, dietitian and other health care professionals provide care on the premises, “ Aaron says. “In addition, the Atrium is staffed by nurses around the clock. When we combine 24-hour nursing with on-site physician visits, you really achieve a high level of continuity of care and convenience for the resident. A wireless emergency response system and security system provides extra peace of mind for residents. Renovating and expanding does not mean losing sight of the care, services and quality that are hallmarks of Anna Maria’s success. Aaron and relatives Rob Norton, George Norton and Chris Norton are hands-on owners who regard residents and staff as family. That same attentiveness extends to The Atrium.

“When I say we are family-owned and operated, we truly are,” Aaron promises. “Our mantra is, ‘Every Family, Every Resident, Every Day.’ We are here for our residents and our staff. Many of our employees have worked here for years and have grown with our organization.”

“Anna Maria will continue its business model of not requiring long-term contracts or buy-in agreements with The Atrium project,” Diane adds.

“Through its innovative design, programs and amenities—which have been carefully planned for varying levels of needs and preferences—we believe the Atrium offers an active, enriching lifestyle, and we look forward to launching this unique concept,” Diane continues.

Over the years, Aaron acknowledged, he has witnessed the positive impact a move to a senior living community can be for individuals and couples alike. He and the Norton family are passionate about creating a lively and engaging, nurturing and caring environment that enables seniors to thrive and get the most enjoyment out of everyday life.
