When you walk in and glimpse the array of artistic shapes and dazzling colors, you may need to reassure yourself that you’re really in a Midwestern furniture store.

“We carry contemporary furniture that you won’t find at any other store in the Cleveland area,” insists Michael Rogoff, owner of Metro Home Furniture & Mattress, in Mentor. “When we opened this showroom our intention was to make a statement. We believe there is a strong market for this kind of furniture and we can sell it without gouging customers with the huge markups you’ll find at other stores than carry contemporary styles.”

In fact, Michael invites you to shop the Internet and other furniture retailers to compare the value offered at Metro Home.

Metro Home, which is part of a family-owned group that also includes three Sleep Source mattress retailers in the Cleveland area, opened in April. The showroom features a selection of transitional furniture and a huge assortment of mattresses along with its chic contemporary furniture for all rooms of the home.

“Contemporary furniture appeals to people who want to change to an exciting new look,” Michael explains. “If you’re willing to make a change and you’re committed to it, this is the store for you.”
When you walk into Metro Home, don’t expect an overzealous salesman to assault you at the door.

“Our sales staff is attentive and professional,” Michael assures. “But we like to give you a chance to relax, look around and experience what we have to offer. Many first-time customers browse a while then return with their interior designers. If you decide the contemporary pieces are a little radical for you, we also have some of the same traditional furniture that you’ll find in any other store. And I think you’ll find our prices more to your liking.”

Michael isn’t a fan of the sales gimmicks employed by the chain retailers.

“We don’t have sales,” he emphasizes. “But if you shop around at the stores that advertise 50% off every week, you’ll find that you’re usually paying more during their sales than you pay here everyday.”

“What we offer here is an honest price tag and an honest price,” adds Ron Martin, store manager.

About 80% of the items in the Metro Home showroom are American made. Still, the store carries a huge selection of top-quality furniture from leading manufacturers from around the world, such as the Norwegian made Stressless seating and Italsofa, of Italy. The Italsofa gallery is likely to catch your eye as soon as you enter the showroom. The brand blends voguish fashion with cleverly designed functionality.

“People today don’t only want furniture that looks good,” insists Joe Payne, general manager. “They want to use their furniture. They want to live in it.”

Demonstrating his point, Michael shows how the back and armrests of a sofa from Italsofa can be adjusted to create multiple configurations.

“Sliding the backrest backward gives you more room to comfortably snuggle up with your computer or tablet,” he says.

And speaking of comfort, Metro Home carries more memory foam performance mattresses than any other store in Northeast Ohio, Michael insists.

“Performance mattresses truly solve sleeping issues,” he explains. “They conform to your body, they breathe better than spring mattresses and they are adjustable, so whether you snore or have restless leg syndrome, Fibromyalgia, acid reflux, back pain or are just too hot at night, a performance mattress can help.”

Metro Home also carries traditional mattresses. And all of their mattresses carry the exclusive 40 Winks Warranty: If you aren’t satisfied with your new mattress, you can exchange it for up to 40 days.
